Chapter 205 Only A Matter of Time
Since Megan had been keeping quiet and Hugh had been showing effort and giving in, Bethan gradually shifted her attention back to her job.
Recently, he behaved almost like a model husband, leaving work right on schedule, staying home to wait for dinner with Bethan, or showing up at her hospital. Sometimes, while she was at work, he even sent her random messages that made little sense.
Turns out everything he did was just a distraction.
Bethan let out a cold laugh. For her, there was no need for any
of this.

Late at night in Blue Bay Community, Hugh parked the car in his spot but didn’t hurry to get out.
He rolled down the window and lit a cigarette, thin smoke veiling his face, making him look shadowed and unreadable.
Not long after, a white sports car reversed into the space, and Mason climbed out.

Hugh’s pack, and smirked. “What’s the matter? Can’t even walk into your own house? What bad thing did you do this time?”
Hugh blew out a puff of smoke and wearily replied, “As long as you don’t meddle, Bethan and I will be fine.”
Mason gave a short, sarcastic laugh. “It’s only a matter of time before you and Bethan split. I’ll be here to see it for myself.”
Hugh glanced at him, his brows tightening. “If you don’t stir things up, that day won’t come.”
Mason said with a smirk, “The whole world is expecting you and Bethan to end in divorce. Hanging on is useless.” After speaking, he gave Hugh a knowing look and headed toward the building.
Feeling suffocated, Hugh pushed open the car door and stepped out. At that moment, Arthur came wandering up, dragging a suitcase.
When they reached the elevator, Hugh stopped Arthur. “You’re staying at your own place tonight. Don’t keep crashing at mine.”
Arthur jutted his lip out in defiance. “Not happening.”

Hugh gripped Arthur’s shoulder and said firmly, “My wife is your doctor, not your babysitter. Don’t push it.”

Arthur, cocky as ever, warned, “Keep blocking me and I’ll tell Bethy you laid hands on me.”
Hugh loosened his grip, face black with anger. Arthur’s swagger annoyed him deeply. “Keep it up, and I’ll invite your grandpa over,” he warned.
Arthur flared up instantly. “If you dare bring that old geezer here, I’ll whisk Bethy off to Europe and leave you a lonely old bachelor.” With that, he stomped into the elevator, fuming and grumbling.
The two men stood on either side, Arthur glaring at Hugh while Hugh locked his stare right back.
On the ninth floor, the doors slid open, and Hugh walked out. Arthur moved to step after him, but when Hugh reached for his phone, Arthur hesitated and pulled his foot back.
Hugh then stood by the elevator, watching it climb to the eleventh floor before finally turning away.
Back home, he found Bethan still awake. He stood beside her, studying her face closely. He was sure that after catching him. with Megan and her son tonight, she must be upset.
Hugh hesitated before saying, “Bethan, tonight I—”

Before he could finish, Bethan’s phone rang. She raised a finger to silence him, picked it up, and went to the balcony to answer.
Hugh stayed rooted to the spot, dazed, before heading into the bathroom. By the time he returned, she was lying under the
covers.
He walked over to the bed and was just about to speak when Bethan’s phone rang again. She picked it up, got out of bed, and said, “You get some rest. I’ll take this next door.”
Hugh stopped her and asked, “What is it that I can’t hear?”
Bethan said calmly, “It’s work-related. You wouldn’t get it anyway. Just go to sleep.”
Hugh pressed on. “If it really is just work, then you’ve got no reason to keep it from me.”
