Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 217

Chapter 217 Apologize or Attend A Funeral

Hugh sat across from his parents, his expression grim.

“The Keating family has bad blood with the Kroos family,” he said, “but the Cavill family hasn’t crossed them. Bethan’s treating James because he personally agreed to it. There’s no need to worry.”

Harvey, his grandfather, chimed in, “It’s better to resolve old grudges than to let them fester. Since James trusts Bethan, this could be a chance for her to bridge the gap between the two families.”

Hugh stood, his tone firm. “Grandfather, the feud between the Keating and Kroos families runs deep. Bethan’s not the right person to mediate.”

Harvey raised an eyebrow. “How do you know unless she tries?”

Hugh’s voice hardened. “If even you couldn’t resolve it, Grandfather, how could Bethan?”

Ryan, Hugh’s father, spoke up, “According to the Kroos family, James’ condition has deteriorated to the point of needing a Wheelchair. If he had any other options, he wouldn’t have 19:44

risked coming back to the country to be treated by a doctor with no experience.”

Harvey nodded. “I’ve heard Bethan’s specialty is stubborn insomnia. If James refuses to make peace with the Kroos family, there’s no need for her to keep treating him.”

Hugh stood before his grandfather and parents, his face heavy with resolve.

“Grandfather, Mom, Dad,” he said, “I’ll find a way to mediate between the Keating and Kroos families. Please don’t interfere with Bethan’s work.”

Late that night, Hugh returned to an empty house.

The silence in the sprawling rooms was almost suffocating.

He wandered into the master bedroom.

Standing before their oversized wedding photo, he gazed at Bethan, radiant in her white gown, nestled happily in his arms.

Back then, Bethan’s smile had been so genuine, her joy so easily sparked.

His fingers traced the curve of her smiling face in the photo.

side.

Now, those irretrievable days tugged at his heart, a bittersweet ache he couldn’t shake.

From the moment he decided to marry Bethan, he’d never imagined they’d part ways.

When he and Megan reunited after years apart, his emotions were a tangled mess-shock, joy, surprise, guilt, and pity all swirling together.

He’d made promises to Megan: to acknowledge her son, to protect them both, and to provide for them.

But divorce from Bethan? That had never crossed his mind.

Time ticked by, and at three in the morning, Hugh still stood before the wedding photo.

In the image, the diamond ring on Bethan’s finger gleamed with dazzling brilliance.

When he’d slipped it onto her hand, she’d vowed never to take it off, not even in death.

But later, she’d thrown it away with her own hands.

He was her husband, her childhood friend, and her lifelong companion.

Yet there he’d been, publicly siding with Megan, standing against her.

He’d doubted her judgment about a “patient” and questioned her ethics.

When she’d said he had no right to judge her, her eyes had been so cold, so final.

Hugh closed his eyes, exhaustion washing over him.

In that moment, he knew with stark clarity: if he let her go, she’d never look back.

He couldn’t let their marriage deteriorate any further.

He couldn’t let her lose any more of her love for him.

The next morning, Bethan arrived at her hospital office.

She wrapped up Arthur’s final treatment plan, giving him a few last-minute instructions.

Joe, her assistant, knocked and poked his head in. “Dr. Olsen,

there’s a Ms. Ridley here to see you. She’s been waiting outside for nearly half an hour.”

Bethan exchanged a glance with Arthur and said flatly, “I’m not seeing her.”

Arthur patted his chest with a grin. “Bethy, want me to handle it for you?”

Bethan sighed, a wry smile tugging at her lips, “She’s Mr. Cavill’s darling. If you mess with her, he’ll come after you for damages.”

Arthur shot her a mischievous wink and strutted out of the office, shoulders squared.

Bethan didn’t stop him, turning back to her work.

She had no interest in dealing with Megan, but if Megan dared interfere with her job, she wouldn’t hold back.
