Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 23

Chapter 23 His Silence

Bethan completely lost it. She grabbed the nearest pillow and hurled it at him.

Then she stood on the bed, trembling with rage. “You bastard!”

Hugh bent to pick up the pillow.

Bethan seized a medical textbook from her nightstand and threw it at him. “You cheated on me. You betrayed me. And now you have the audacity to stand here and defend her in front of me? To say things like that to me?”

Hugh stayed calm, easily dodging her attacks.

But when she reached for her laptop, he stepped in and caught her by the wrist, stopping her just in time. “Are you done yet?”

The moment he wrestled the laptop from her hands, all the fury she’d been bottling up collapsed into helplessness.

She was screaming through her sobs, thrashing and flinging everything she could reach in a blind, hysterical rage. “If you’ve got the guts, then guard them twenty-four hours a day! Because if I see her again, I will hit her again!”

His voice cracked as she kept yelling through her tea “The 22 Olsen family’s already gone bankrunt! If you push me. I’ll burn everything to the ground with you!

“Hugh! I’ll see you in court! I’m going to sue for divorce! I’ll make sure everyone knows you cheated! That you betrayed our marriage!

“I’ll drag that woman you love to the pillar of shame and nail her there as a homewrecker forever!”

Bethan was spiraling out of control. Hugh stood at the edge of the bed, quickly stepping in to stop her from falling off in her frenzy. He wrapped his arms around her tightly.

She struggled wildly in his arms, unable to break free. Then, in her fury, she bit down on his shoulder, hard. Her entire body trembled from the effort.

Hugh winced but didn’t move, holding still even as the sharp pain tore through him. She didn’t let go until the bitter taste of blood flooded her mouth.

When she finally released her grip, panting, he said calmly, “If you’re done, lie down. I’ll get you some water.”

Hugh helped her settle under the covers, then went to pour a glass of water and brought it back so she could rinse her mouth.

The emotional storm had passed, but she was left numb. Even after everything she’d screamed, everything she’d thrown, her heart still felt hollow.
