When he saw she was still resisting, his expression darkened.

His hands closed firmly over her shoulders, his gaze unreadable.

He sighed, “Bethan, I know I did things before that you can’t forgive. But we’re still married. Are you really going to keep treating me like this?”

Bethan laughed bitterly, “If I had slept with another man and given him a child, would you still be saying that so casually?”

Her temper flared. “You cheated, you kept another woman, you even had a child with her. And yet you refuse to divorce me. You tell me not to get angry, not to show emotions, and I’ve endured it all. What more do you want from me?”

Hugh’s jaw tightened at her outburst, but instead of snapping back, he pulled her into his arms. His warm hand rubbed soothingly along her back.

“Bethan,” he said softly, “I’ve already apologized. I cut off every way to contact Megan. Can’t we just turn the page and start over?”

Her voice was sharp with defiance. “You think an apology i$9:51 enough for me to forgive you?”

The air between them grew taut, heavy with silence.

Finally, Hugh’s tone shifted, almost coaxing. “Even if you don’t forgive me yet, we’re still husband and wife. And married couples don’t sleep in separate rooms.

“I promise, I won’t touch you until you’re ready-but moving out of this bed isn’t an option.”

When Bethan saw that Hugh was serious, she stopped resisting.

She knew better than anyone that once he set his mind to something, she would never win.

Expressionless, she climbed into bed. Hugh went to take a

shower.

Ten minutes later, the mattress dipped behind her.

She felt his weight, his nearness, and quickly shut her eyes, pretending to sleep.

He must have seen the things she had “arranged” in the bathroom.

If her guess was right, he would try to confirm for himself whether or not she had really gotten her period. 276

Bethan drifted on the edge of sleep when a large hand brushed tentatively across her body.

She forced herself to stay still, every muscle taut, until Hugh finally rolled away and left the bed. Only then did she release the breath she had been holding.

Hugh was meticulous to the point of paranoia. He would not have missed the details she planted.

She had to learn from this. From now on, she needed to be

more careful than ever.

That night, on the balcony, Hugh stood alone, the darkness swallowing his tall frame. His eyes blended into the night, but the disappointment in them was clear.

One cigarette burned into another, smoke curling around him as he stayed silent for a long time.

The following afternoon, Bethan left Keating Mansion early and went with Arthur to the racing club to relax.

More than an hour later, in the executive office of the Cavill Group headquarters, Hugh’s phone lit up with Mason’s friend’s Instagram story.

The video showed a red and a blue sports car tearing down the 376

track.

The red car suddenly surged ahead, then executed a sharp, perfect drift, spinning around to face the blue car head-on.

The crowd erupted in cheers as the red car’s door opened.

Bethan stepped out in a striking red-and-white racing suit. The moment she pulled off her helmet, her long hair spilled down like a waterfall.

Under the setting sun, with Arthur spinning her in his arms to the sound of applause, her smile blazed-bold, radiant, as dazzling as a rose in full bloom.

Jacob glanced sideways and saw Hugh staring intently at the screen, almost entranced. Jacob quickly looked away.

Holy hell. Mrs. Cavill is drop-dead gorgeous. No wonder Mr. Cavill refused to divorce.

He couldn’t stop himself from muttering, “Her driving skills are amazing.”

Hugh pulled his gaze back with no visible reaction.

“I taught her,” he said simply.

Jacob went silent.
