Chapter 233 A Lease Agreement

The truth cut deep. Megan wanted to explode, but she bit it

back.

And yet, the words dissolved her wariness toward Fiona completely.

She softened her voice. “The Cavill elders may look down on me, but Hudson is still their blood. For his sake, please help me. Convince Mrs. Cavill to let Hugh visit us.’

Fiona stirred her coffee slowly with a silver spoon.

She spoke, “For my grandson, I’m willing to help. But remember who I am. Hugh is still married. I can’t act openly on your behalf. If anyone caught me, I wouldn’t be able to protect you again.”

Seeing Megan’s face tighten, Fiona added, “Everyone already knows you and Hugh have a relationship. If you want to see him, bring the child and go to him directly. Show up at his office. Or at his home. I’ll support you.”

Megan’s hands clenched in her lap. Panic churned in her chest.

Hudson isn’t even Hugh’s son. What leverage do I have to qause a scene?

She kept silent for a long moment, then forced her voice into a tremble. “I can’t bear to push Hugh like that. I love him too much. I’ll endure anything for him. I just…I pity my child, growing up without a name or a father. One day, people will call him a bastard, a boy without a dad.”

Fiona’s face betrayed nothing as she watched Megan’s little performance.

She let her finish, then finally said, “Whatever the

circumstances, Hudson is still my grandson. The Cavill family won’t abandon you.”

Relief surged hot through Megan’s chest. Fiona’s promise was all the reassurance she needed.

Fiona continued calmly, “I’ll speak to Hugh and persuade him to end the marriage, to give you and Hudson the respect you deserve. But you can’t just sit back either. You need to do exactly as I’ve taught you.”

Megan nodded quickly. “Don’t worry. As long as you’re truly looking out for us, I’ll follow your lead.”

Fiona gave her a long look, then slipped a folder from her bag and slid it across the table.

Megan opened it cautiously. It was a lease agreement. 19:52

Her expression hardened with suspicion. “Why are you giving me this?”

Fiona’s voice was soft, her manner refined.

She explained, “This is one of my private properties in the city. Not even my son knows about it.

“You’ve already been blacklisted online for selling counterfeits, and it isn’t safe for you where you’re living now. Take Hudson and move into this apartment.”

Megan’s eyes flickered.

If Fiona really considered Hudson her grandson, if she truly pitied them for having no place to go, why not just transfer the property directly to her? Why insist on a lease instead?

Fiona folded her hands gracefully on the table. “There’s no need to doubt my intentions. I’m doing this for your sake.”

Megan sneered inwardly and forced a smile. “I still don’t

understand.”

Fiona lifted her brows. “Megan, you come from an ordinary family. You have neither education nor career. Yes, you gave our Cavill family an heir, but the difference between you and

son is still vast.” my son

Megan bit down on her lip.

This old woman still looks down on me-even now.

Fiona pressed on. “Hugh always tells us you’re pure-hearted, kind, independent, not materialistic. I don’t want to shatter the image he holds of you. And I’d like Harvey to see your good qualities as well.

“That’s why, after much consideration, I’ve made this

arrangement. Sign the lease. The rent will be listed at market rate, paid annually.”

Her tone softened. “But don’t worry. I won’t actually take a cent from you. No one but me will know the apartment isn’t really yours. To the outside world, you’ll be the tenant, living there with dignity.”

She added gently, “You’ve been struggling all this time without taking a penny from the Cavill family. When Hugh finds out, he’ll only feel more protective of you, more impressed by your strength. And I can put in a good word for you with Harvey.”

Megan lowered her gaze, hiding her excitement.

So that’s what she’s after. Good thing I held my tongue. She is

right.
