Chapter 237 Hole Up at Keating Mansion
He’d learned enough about this girl to know her habits.

When she was treating him, she was the boss-always calling the shots.
In casual settings, she was polite, calling him Mr. Keating. But when she wanted something, she softened her voice and called him Jimmy.
He arched a brow. “So how long do you plan on hiding out here?”
Bethan thought for a moment. “A week.”
Hugh had been suspicious ever since she’d vomited so badly last time.
She had deflected, claiming she was on her period, but he clearly hadn’t believed her. He had tested her twice already.
Tonight’s fight gave her the perfect excuse to stay away, to hole up at Keating Mansion for a week and avoid more of his probing questions.
James didn’t answer right away, his gaze thoughtful. Bethah:58

quickly pressed her case. “Jimmy, if I’m in a bad state of mind, won’t that slow down your recovery? If a week is too long, then five days. Just five.”
James shot her a side glance. “With nerves like yours, if this
were a negotiation table, you’d lose the entire Olsen family fortune in one go.”
Bethan didn’t argue.
She knew she wasn’t stupid—but around men like Mason and James, her wits always seemed to collapse.
She couldn’t beat them at cards, couldn’t outmaneuver them in a battle of minds.
James leaned back, voice even. “As long as I’m here, you can stay at Keating Mansion as long as you want.”
Bethan clutched her chest in relief, finally able to breathe.
“Want me to send someone to pick up your things?” James
asked.
She shook her head. “No need. I’ll get them myself.”
Tomorrow, when Hugh’s at the office and the house is empty,

That same night, at Blue Bay Community, Hugh came home to
an empty apartment. Bethan hadn’t returned.
He called her. She hung up.
He texted her. She didn’t reply.
Frustrated, he lit a cigarette, pacing the room.
Minutes later, he strode up to the eleventh floor.
Arthur answered the door, damp-haired from a shower, a white robe clinging to his frame, slippers shuffling across the floor. Hugh pushed past him into the room, scanning.
But Bethan wasn’t there. “Where is she?” Hugh demanded.
Arthur rubbed at his hair with a towel. “She got out halfway. Walked off.”
“Where did she go?” Hugh’s voice was like steel.
Arthur shrugged. “How should I know?”
The two men locked eyes, silent for several tense seconds. Then Hugh turned on his heel and walked out.

She had cried so heartbreakingly tonight. That alone told Hugh how much she cared. He had to find her and explain.
In the middle of the night, Hugh drove through half the city searching.
Olsen House, Martin Manor, Cavill Manor, even Gwen’s apartment—every place he could think of, he checked.
At one in the morning, he finally arrived at Keating Mansion.
At the gates, Isaac stood behind James’ wheelchair, stationed just inside the ornate iron bars.
Hugh stopped outside.
For a few silent seconds, the two men stared at one another through the gate.
“Is she asleep?” Hugh finally asked.
James lounged in his chair, dressed in a deep-V robe with a thin blanket over his legs, idly rolling his bracelet between his fingers.
He gave the smallest nod, but said nothing.

before murmuring, “Sorry to disturb you.”
Then he turned and walked back to his car.
James lifted a hand, and Isaac pushed him away from the gate.
Perplexed, Isaac asked, “Mr. Keating, if Mr. Cavill went through this much trouble to find her at this hour, why didn’t he insist on coming in to take her home?”
James gave a cold little laugh.
Bethan’s emotional state tonight was fragile, and she had work tomorrow. Hugh’s decision to leave her undisturbed, for once, was the wisest choice he could have made.
Around three in the morning, Hugh stumbled out of his car, reeking of alcohol, and swayed into the elevator.
Just as the doors were about to close, Mason slipped inside.
