Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 26

Chapter 26 Think About Your Parents

Frustrated, Hugh glanced at Bethan and turned to leave.

Bethan suddenly shoved Gwen aside, snatched the fruit knife from the table, and ran to block the doorway.

Hugh halted in his tracks.

Bethan raised the knife and pressed it against her throat. Her voice trembled with desperation. “Hugh, give me your phone. If you don’t-I swear, I’ll do it.”

At that moment, she looked like someone who’d bet everything on one last card.

She refused to give up. She needed to know if there was still a place for her in Hugh’s heart.

She needed to let go. She wanted to see the ugly truth with her own eyes, read those vile messages on his phone. She wanted to crush the last fragile thread of love still clinging to him.

Eyes wide open, she braced herself-waiting for Hugh to deliver the final blow.

The air between them was thick, pulsing with tension and heartbreak.

Gwen stood off to the side, at a complete loss. She had known things between Hugh and Bethan weren’t great, but she hadn’t realized it had gotten this bad.

This was the first time she’d seen Bethan lose control like this- truly, terrifyingly lose it.

Hugh stood still, eyes locked on the knife in Bethan’s shaking hand.

He took a careful step forward. The blade in her grip twitched, and he stopped immediately.

He didn’t hand over the phone. Instead, he said coldly, “Bethan, your life is your own. If you’re set on dying, no one can stop you.”

His voice was detached, heartless, and devoid of emotion.

Bethan stared at him in disbelief, her eyes wide with pain. She opened her mouth, but no sound came out.

Gwen’s eyes widened in shock. “She’s like this, and that’s what you choose to say? Can’t you just say something kind?”

Hugh shot her a look that said don’t push him.
