Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 27

Chapter 27 We’re in the Past

Late at night, a silver Phantom sports car slid into a temporary parking space by the curb.

Mason stepped out with his usual lazy swagger-only to be immediately blocked by Gwen. “Take me to Megan,” she ordered.

Mason’s attractive eyes squinted in disbelief. “You must be joking. How would I know where that woman lives?”

Gwen didn’t buy it.

She might not be able to touch Hugh, but Mason? She could deal with him.

She marched into the middle of the road. “If I get hit by a car, I’ll tell my parents you pushed me.”

Mason practically dove to the ground in front of her, sliding on one knee and grabbing her legs. “Okay! I’ll take you!”

Meanwhile, Megan had asked the housekeeper to call Hugh several times, but he never answered.

Just as she was about to text him herself, the doorbell rang.

She caught the fury burning in Gwen’s eyes, and the smile vanished instantly.

After a moment’s hesitation, Megan stepped aside politely. “Ms. Cavill. It’s so late. What brings you here?”

Gwen bent down, picked up a pair of men’s slippers by the door, and glanced at the size. It was Hugh’s size.

The rage she’d barely managed to suppress flared again.

With a loud smack, she hurled the slippers across the room. Her voice was thick with sarcasm. “So this is the gilded cage Hugh gave you?”

Megan rushed to explain. “You’ve got it wrong, Ms. Cavill. Hugh and I are over. We’re in the past.”

Gwen stalked forward in her heels and abruptly yanked off one of Megan’s earrings.

Megan gasped in pain, covering her ear and stumbling back.

Mason muttered, “Yeah, but I’m not into leftovers from someone else’s marriage.”

She forced out a trembling response. “Ms. Cavill, I don’t know what I did to offend you, but please show a little decency. There’s really nothing going on between me and Hugh.”

Mason tugged Gwen back a few steps and whispered, “Gwen, watch out. She might cast a spell on Hugh or something.”

Gwen shook off Mason’s grip, pointed a finger at Megan, and snapped, “Hugh’s always been practical. He doesn’t trade down. You’ve got no family background, no real skills, and with that average face of yours? You wouldn’t even be worth a bidding war in his social circle—not even as a one-night stand.”

Megan’s lips pressed into a tight line, her face drained of color.

She hadn’t expected to be confronted by Hugh’s wife, but it was somehow worse-his sister had shown up instead. No matter what, she couldn’t fight back.

Gwen stepped right up to her, her words sharp and deliberate. “You want to sleep your way to the top? Use your looks and your body? Fine. Pick another man. But not Hugh.”

She continued, “Six years ago, you weren’t good enough to step through the Cavill family’s door. And six years later, even with a kid, you’re still not welcome.”
