Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 331

Chapter 331 Prepared

Lucky Draw

Leaning weakly into her husband’s arms, Maria nodded, her voice trembling. “Mr. Cavill, I’m not unreasonable. If you’re going to cover for Dr. Olsen, too, if you think I’m framing her- then don’t say a word. I’ll bear this wrong.”

Hugh’s face darkened, his tone laced with undercurrents of danger. “Mrs. Field, I’m the one who sent Megan to jail. If the Ridley family has a problem with that, come at me directly. Leave innocent people out of it.”

Hanging her head, Maria looked utterly wronged. “You flatter me, Mr. Cavill. The Ridley family is just a small clan-we’d never dare cross you. We can’t even speak up when wronged in our own home, let alone drag innocent people into this.”

Bradley pulled Maria protectively into his arms, his voice fierce with anger. “Mr. Dixon, Mr. Cavill-we have witnesses and video proof. My wife was wronged today. Even if God himself came, I’d avenge her. If you insist on protecting that woman, you’ll be making an enemy of the Field family!”

Then, he turned to his butler, ordering him to call the police on the spot.

Seeing this, Hugh instinctively reached out to take Bethan’s hand, wanting to comfort her.

But Bethan stepped forward suddenly, leaving Hugh’s hand hanging empty once again.

He stared at her, dazed, his mind going blank for a moment.

A look of grievance washed over Bethan-weaker, more helpless

than Maria’s.

“Tristen, you brought me to the Field dinner today. I never planned to say much, afraid of straining relations between you two families. But Mrs. Field is pushing me too far-I can’t stay silent anymore.”

Tristen had always been her mentor, caring for her like a younger sister.

She couldn’t let the Dixon and Field families fall out over her, leaving Tristen unable to answer to his eldest brother.

Lucky for her, she’d prepared-otherwise, she really would have fallen prey to Maria’s scheme.

In front of everyone, Bethan rolled up the sleeve of her right arm slowly, her expression calm.

Watching the crowd’s shocked reactions, she rolled it up a little more, revealing dark red finger marks on her skin.

Hugh’s eyes couldn’t hide his distress.

Fighting through his dizziness, he stepped toward her again, his voice tight. “Who did this?”

Bethan didn’t answer, her gaze shifting to Maria.

Following her line of sight, Hugh turned to Maria, his eyes narrowing dangerously.

Putting on an innocent expression, Bethan spoke up for everyone to hear, “Mrs. Field was squeezing my arm so hard it hurt. I tried to pull away, but she gripped tighter. I pushed her only by accident—I didn’t mean to.”

“You’re lying!” Maria exclaimed, caught off guard by the counterattack.

Leaning weakly against her husband, she pointed at Bethan. “I never touched you! You resented my niece so much, you pushed me on purpose to make me miscarry!”

Still looking innocent, Bethan countered, “Mrs. Field, I admit I had some issues with Megan. But before today, I didn’t know you-let alone that you’re her aunt.”

She paused, letting the words sink in. “Would I really scratch myself like this, knowing there are cameras, just to frame someone I’d never met?”

Maria hadn’t expected Bethan to play this card. She’d already revealed her identity in the ballroom downstairs, yet Bethan had stayed calm enough to pretend not to know her connection to the Ridley family.

For a moment, Maria was lost for words.

Bethan took a step closer to her, her tone steady.

“Mrs. Field, you knew I was here with Mr. Dixon. Yet you slandered me, trying to turn the Dixon and Field families against each other. What’s your real motive?”

Before Maria could reply, Tristen spoke up, his voice firm, “Mr. Field, has the Dixon family ever wronged the Field family?”

Seeing the tide turning, Bradley hurried to smooth things over. “Mr. Dixon, don’t say that. The Field and Dixon families have always been on good terms-this is all just a misunderstanding, a silly misunderstanding.”

He waved at his butler, stopping him from calling the police.

Mason glanced at the Ridley family with a playful smirk. “Mr. Field, don’t let a woman’s words cloud your judgment. You wouldn’t want to ruin the Field family’s century-old legacy over a petty dispute.”

His words held a veiled warning. Bradley’s face paled, then flushed, his expression shifting repeatedly.

Maria glared at Mason, gritting her teeth to hold back her anger.

She quickly composed herself, telling a maid to fetch 100 thousand dollars in cash.

Holding the money out to Bethan Maria forced a smile. “Dr. Olsen, you’re our guest. Let’s say this was my fault. Take this money to cover your dress and medical bills. Don’t let this get to you and Mr. Dixon.”
