Chapter 346 One Last
Lucky Draw
After Hugh’s words, a profound silence descended once more.
An awkward yet poignant moment stretched as they stared into cach other’s eyes for what felt like an age.
Finally, Bethan broke eye contact and wordlessly made her way to the dining table, taking a seat.
Meanwhile, Hugh, slouching and leaning on the stair railing, watched her as she quietly dug into her breakfast. The pain in his heart was so intense that it felt like his chest was being crushed, forcing him to gasp for air.
Even if he could never win her forgiveness or be close to her again, he was resolved to spend his life protecting and making amends to her.
It was ages before Hugh joined Bethan at the table.
Sitting across from her, Hugh watched her eat with such focus that he decided to take a spoonful of the soup.
The bitter taste hit his taste buds instantly, but he gulped it down.
His hand holding the spoon trembled slightly.
“I’m gonna go upstairs and change. You take your time,” Bethan said and headed upstairs to get ready for departure.

Hugh slowly rose to his feet.

Ten minutes or so later, they stepped out of the island villa side by side and walked in silence toward the waiting helicopter.
The roar of the helicopter’s propellers seemed to release the tension that had been gripping Bethan’s body.
She knew Hugh was a practical man who always put his interests first.
There was no way he’d stick around here for too long.
“Bethy, how about one last look at the beach?” Hugh suddenly halted.
Bethan’s face hardened. “Hugh, don’t you forget your promise!”
Despite his best efforts to hold back, Hugh felt his eyes well up with tears again.
His voice, hoarse with exhaustion was filled with a desperate plea.
“Maybe this is it. After this, there won’t be another chance.”
On the early-morning beach, they stood side by side, looking out at the vast expanse of the blue sea
Bethan’s gaze was calm and composed, while Hugh’s eyes were filled with pain and restraint.

After a brief pause, Bethan reminded him, “Let’s go.”

Seeing Hugh unmoving, she turned around and started walking towards the helicopter alone.
“Bethy!” Hugh lunged forward and hugged her tightly, as if
she’d disappear in the blink of an eye.
Before Bethan could struggle or protest, Hugh pleaded, his voice choked with emotion, “Just one last hug, please!”
He tightened his embrace and buried his face in her hair, inhaling her scent deeply.
“Sorry, I just wanna remember how you smell and how it feels to hold you,” he whispered silently, his eyes closed.
In a daze, he murmured, “Bethy, is there really no future for
us?”
It was more like a question to himself.
The morning sun bathed the beach in a warm glow.
Hugh, in his white shirt, held Bethan, in her white dress, tightly, trying hard not to break down.
Years ago, in that very summer, Hugh, in the same white shirt, had held Bethan in her white wedding dress and kissed her tenderly.

However, the sea breeze here, no matter how strong, failed to blow back the memories of their past.
Bethan gently extricated herself from Hugh’s embrace. “Let’s move on,” she murmured.
Hugh remained rooted behind, his eyes fixed blankly on her retreating form. His feet felt as if they were shackled, each step a herculean effort.
Silence hung thick between them.
Bethan forged ahead, Hugh following suit.
The dawn sun, lurking beyond the horizon, stretched their shadows across the sand, yet it couldn’t halt the inevitable separation.
Once aboard the helicopter, Bethan reclined with her eyes shut, seeking solace in the quiet.
Meanwhile, Hugh’s gaze remained glued to her, unwavering.
After a few hours’ flight, it was high noon in New York.
The helicopter descended onto the tarmac of the Cavill family’s private airport.
As Hugh and Bethan disembarked, the combined forces of the Cavill and Olsen families rushed forward in a flurry of activity.

towards her, Bethan extended her hand. “Mr. Cavill, my phone,”
she said, her tone firm.
Hugh, his eyes bloodshot with emotion, handed it over wordlessly.
