Chapter 356 Trouble

Mason cleared away all the booze on the table.

Turning to Hugh, he offered some tough-love advice. “Hugh, it’s done with you and Bethan. You did the right thing by moving

on.”

Hugh shut his eyes, overcome with pain. Tears trickled down his cheeks.

It is over, indeed.

But having her so near yet untouchable, and watching her leave with another guy in his car, felt like a searing pain, as if his heart was being torn out.

The agony was driving him mad.

“I want to make it up to her, but she won’t even give me a shot,” Hugh mumbled.

Mason didn’t mince words. “Can’t you see? Bethan doesn’t need your amends,” he said.

It was a hard truth, but he had to lay it out.

“Hugh, you hurt her. You’re trying to make things right just to ease your own conscience. You don’t want to be haunted by guilt. Just like you chose to hurt her then, she’s choosing not to let you off the hook now.”

As Mason had always said, Hugh and Bethan, both Scorpios, were either a match made in heaven or a recipe for disaster.

Hugh had once exploited Bethan’s love and inflicted pain on her.

Now, she was using her cold-heartedness to shatter him.

Hugh was drowning in remorse, suffering like hell.

Meanwhile, Bethan had moved on, closing every door for Hugh to atone. She was just watching him struggle in his sea of bad feelings.

It’d be ideal if Hugh could let go and pick himself up.

But if he couldn’t, Mason didn’t dare to contemplate the

consequences.

The next morning in the executive office of the Cavill Group, Hugh sat at his desk, eyes on the papers but his mind miles

away.

Jacob had to call his name several times before he snapped back to reality.

“Take off that mask when you talk,” Hugh said, frowning.

Jacob hesitated a bit, then removed the mask, revealing his scratched-up face.

“The injury looks worse. What happened?” Hugh asked.

Lucky Draw

Jacob fessed up. “Last night when I got home, my wife saw all these scratches. She thought I’d been having an affair and gave me a good scolding.”

Hugh glanced at the scratches, went “oh”, and returned to his work.

Jacob stood there, silent for a while. Then he finally asked, “Mr. Cavill, should we keep following Dr. Olsen?”

Hugh paused in his writing. “Tell all departments to end all collaborations with the Field Group,” he ordered.

Jacob looked concerned. “Mr. Cavill, maybe we should talk to Mr. Ryan Cavill first?”

The two groups had a long-standing partnership. Terminating it unilaterally would bring losses and draw criticism from other partners and pressure from the board.

But Hugh was firm. “Just do as I say.”

With no alternative, Jacob nodded and left to carry out the order.

The news reached Bradley promptly.

His face turned ashen after hanging up the phone.

Lucky Draw

On the hospital bed, Maria stroked her pregnant belly and whined, “Honey, can you focus on me instead of work?”

Standing beside the hospital bed, Bradley wore a serious expression as he addressed Maria, “Maria, I’m over fifty and finally having a child. I’ve spoiled you in everything you do. But you really shouldn’t have offended Mr. Cavill’s ex-wife!”

Maria felt a twinge of guilt. She tried to test the waters in a coquettish tone. “Honey, don’t be so serious. You said that woman was just Mr. Cavill’s ex. Am I, your wife, supposed to grovel at her feet?”

Bradley shook his head in disappointment. “You offended Mr. Cavill to avenge your niece. In his anger, he terminated all cooperation with the Field Group. We’ve lost tens of billions because of you!”

“Honey, calm down. I promise I’ll stay far away from that woman so Mr. Cavill won’t misunderstand me again.” Maria quickly shook her head in denial.
