Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 357

Chapter 357 Can’t Cross His Ex-wife

As the lunch hour loomed, the office buzzed with the anticipation of a well-deserved break.

But just then, Ryan barged into Hugh’s office like a storm, his face flushed with anger. “Take back that order right this minute and get us back in business with the Field Group!”

Hugh, who had been deeply engrossed in some important documents, put them down and stood up, his posture straight and firm. “Dad, I’m running this show here. Keep your nose out of my work!”

Across the large oak desk, the two men locked eyes.

Ryan jabbed a finger in Hugh’s direction, his frustration palpable. “Over a woman, you’re throwing the company’s interests out the window! What’ll the other partners of the Cavill Group think of this stunt?”

In a fit of rage, Ryan slapped the files down on the desk. “Do you even care about what the board thinks? You’re treating them like they’re nothing!”

Hugh didn’t flinch. “The decision’s made. Our partnership with the Field Group is history. If the Cavill Group wants to keep working with them, the board can fire me first!”

Ryan was left speechless for a moment, his chest heaving with pent-up anger.

Just in the nick of time, Fiona swept into the office, her presence like a calming breeze.

“Hugh, you’ve always been level-headed. A move that’ll hurt

both sides isn’t like you. Think again about axing the Field Group deal.”

Hugh’s voice was steady. “Mom, don’t fret. This was in the works for a while. I’ve lined up a publicly-traded company to step

in for the Field Group last week. I’ll make sure the losses are

covered.”

As Ryan heard that his son had a plan, his temper cooled a bit, though his words were still sharp as a knife.

“At the police station the other day, you saw that woman walk off with that guy, right?

“I told you to get rid of Megan and start a family. Now, even if you give Bethan the whole Cavill Group on a silver platter, she’s not coming back. Drop it!”

Seeing Hugh’s face darken with pain, Fiona coaxed Ryan out of the office, whispering soothing words all the while.

Once everyone had left, only Hugh and Jacob remained.

Hugh slumped against the desk, his shoulders drooping. “Get the pills,” he mumbled.

Jacob scurried over to the coffee table in the lounge and

rummaged around until he found the medicine.

Ryan really didn’t know when to stop, picking at his son’s wounds like that.

Jacob brought the bottle over, and Hugh snatched it from him.

Popping the cap off, Hugh dumped a few painkillers into his hand and gulped them down without water.

“Leave me alone,” Hugh said, then sank into his chair, eyes closed, looking utterly defeated.

At 2 p.m., in the outpatient building of the hospital, Alina intercepted her mother and Elsie at the elevator entrance.

She made an excuse about having something urgent to discuss with her mom and quickly led her out of the hospital.

Elsie, filled with curiosity, quietly followed them.

In the small park near the hospital entrance, Alina stopped after looking around to make sure no one was there.

Ivory, completely bewildered by her daughter’s actions, asked, “Alina, why aren’t you at the company? What brings you to the hospital?”

Alina stared at her mother coldly. “Mom, what are you doing here at the hospital?”

Ivory pulled Alina aside and whispered, “I’ve come up with a plan with Mrs. Field. We’ll make that bitch not only lose her job at the Dixon family’s hospital but also be too ashamed to stay in New York.”

Gasping, Alina said, “Mom, you’d better stop right now!”

Ivory got defensive right away. “I’m doing all this for you. Once that video of that woman messing around with those hooligans gets posted online for everyone to see, Hugh will never think about remarrying her. Just listen to me.”

Alina sighed and lowered her voice. “Mom, I don’t think Mrs. Field has told you yet. Mr. Cavill has terminated all cooperation with the Field Group.”

“Really?” Ivory’s face paled.

Alina nodded firmly. “Without the support of the Cavill Group, the Field family will be out of the picture in New York in a few years. Hugh is sending a clear message. Anyone who dares to hurt his ex-wife will end up like the Field family.”

Ivory’s expression changed drastically. “In all of New York, the only ones eager to get rid of Bethan are Mrs. Field and me. Hugh is clearly warning our Potter family!”

“That’s why I’ve always told you. It’s okay to say a few harsh words, but don’t mess with her,” Alina said seriously.
