Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 359

Chapter 359 Didn’t Have Anything to Do With Him

A little past nine in the morning, the hospital inpatient department welcomed Bethan. As she approached the elevator area, Maria and Nola came into view.

Shooting them a brief, indifferent look, Bethan made a beeline for another elevator.

“Dr. Olsen!” Maria blurted out, quickly stepping in front of her.

Bethan’s gaze dropped to Maria’s abdomen briefly. “Mrs. Field, there’s a high-def surveillance camera just a few feet above your left. Keep it in check, will you?”

Maria rushed to explain herself, “Dr. Olsen, you got me wrong. I was wrong before. Megan pulled the wool over my eyes, so I took it out on you. But I’ve changed my tune. Megan brought this on herself. She’s a goner,” she said with a sigh.

Then, with a softer voice, she said, “Dr. Olsen, I swear I won’t bug you again. Could you have a word with Mr. Cavill and tell him not to call off the deal with the Field Group?”

Bethan shot her a stern look.

“I don’t have any relationship with Mr. Cavill. Can’t help,” she said bluntly, then disappeared into the elevator.

Came the weekend, Bethan played host and invited Tristen and Gloria over.

No sooner had they stepped in than Gloria caught sight of Arthur, sprawled out on the sofa like a king. Startled, Arthur leaped up and scurried off to the neighboring house, one slipper still on his foot.

Tristen shook his head. “Bethan, maybe go easy on inviting Gloria. That fiery personality is a handful.”

But Bethan saw the bright side. “Tristen, don’t be such a downer. Gloria’s a breath of fresh air.”

Checking the clock, Bethan nudged Tristen. “Stay for a poker

game

this afternoon,” she said.

Once Tristen gave the nod, Bethan started dialing away.

When Henry emerged from a room, Tristen did a double-take. “What’s this little guy doing here?” he asked, looking at Bethan.

“Just thought it’d liven things up on a weekend,” Bethan explained.

Henry walked up to Tristen and greeted him cheerfully. “Hi, Mr. Dixon!”

Tristen picked him up. “Why didn’t your dad come over with you as a guest?” he inquired.

“Mr. Dixon, I’m not here as a guest. Bethan says her place is home sweet home for me.” Henry gave a serious little reply.

Tristen laughed and told Bethan, “This kid’s a smart cookie, even more so than his dad.”

Just then, Mason showed up. With Arthur around, they had the perfect foursome for poker. Gloria, Barry, and Henry hung around to watch.

“Mr. Locke, switch with me,” Bethan insisted, eager to be

Mason’s teammate.

Henry spoke up, “Bethan, you gotta brush up on your poker skills. I’ll get Dad to give you lessons.”

Bethan was left red-faced.

Who’d think a med school whiz like her would lose at cards to a

kid?

Henry then popped a chip into Bethan’s mouth. “Just kidding. Have fun. If you lose, Dad’ll foot the bill,” he said reassuringly,

Envy crept over Arthur. “Hey, Henry, how about being my godson? If I lose, I’ll have your dad pay up.”

Little Henry waved his hands vigorously. “No thanks, Mr. Locke. I’ve got enough dads. What I need is a mom,” he quipped.

The innocent words of the little boy had everyone in stitches.

Mason eyed the precocious Henry and couldn’t help but let out a couple of clicks of his tongue.

This little rascal could easily wrap Bethan around his little

finger; no need for Calvin to step in.

Taking out his phone, Mason reminded everyone, “Mind your expressions, folks. I’m posting.”

He shot a short video and uploaded it to Instagram.

Within minutes, Hugh stumbled upon Mason’s Instagram post.

In the video, in the open-concept kitchen, Bethan’s parents were slicing fruits. Bethan, Tristen, and the others were engrossed in a poker game. Henry sat beside Bethan, popping snacks into her mouth.

Judging from Bethan’s ear-to-ear grin, the little boy must have said something hilarious.

Hugh kept tapping on the video, watching it over and over again.

Once upon a time, every time he visited the Olsen family’s place, it was just as warm and lively.
