Chapter 360 Wide Awake
Hugh was glued to his phone screen.
Lucky Draw
A strange sensation washed over him, as if his body and soul were gradually pulling apart, leaving him in a daze.
It took Fiona several worried calls to snap him out of it.
Hugh followed his mother’s gaze to his grandfather and asked, “Grandpa, what were you saying just now?”
Harvey scowled, saying, “Hugh, the business world is a battlefield. As the CEO of the company, you need to think twice before making any decision. Terminating the cooperation with the Field family will do more harm than good to the Cavill Group. After running the Cavill Group for so many years, how could you make such a rookie mistake?”
Hugh stood up and calmly straightened his suit.
“Grandpa, I’ve already given the order. If you think it’s wrong, have the board of directors remove me,” he stated firmly.
Harvey was left speechless, his face turning a furious shade of red.
Ryan pointed at Hugh, his temper flaring. “The whole Cavill family will be yours one day. Everything we do is for you!”
Staring back at his father expressionlessly, Hugh said, “Dad,

have you ever thought about what kind of life I really want?”
After a few seconds of intense eye-to-eye confrontation, Hugh turned around and shuffled away his body weighed down by
exhaustion.
Fiona chased after him to the door, concern etched on her face. “Hugh, I’m free tomorrow morning. Let me take you to the hospital for a check-up.”
“Mom, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.” Hugh tried his best to sound gentle.
Fiona watched her son’s dejected and defeated figure, her heart filled with a mix of pity and helplessness.
She returned to the living room and confronted Ryan in front of Harvey. “The Cavill family is already the top family in New York, and its wealth is among the best in America. Why are you still pushing him to climb higher?”
At her words, Ryan exploded. “What do you know? The business world is a cut-throat place. Today, we stand at the top of the pyramid, and everyone looks up to us. But if we fall from this position, anyone can trample on us!
“Since ancient times, a soft-hearted man can’t lead an army, and a kind-hearted man can’t do business. If he keeps letting his emotions get the better of him, he’ll end up like Vincent. The Cavill family will surely go to ruin in his hands.”
Harvey chimed in, “Business isn’t charity. We businessmen

should always put profit first. If we let him do as he pleases and act on his emotions, he’ll never achieve great things.”

While they were arguing in the hall, Hugh made his way back to the car.
The first thing he did was reach for the painkillers.
But upon unscrewing the bottle cap, he found it empty.
Despite the gnawing pain in his body, Hugh managed to start the engine and hit the road.
Over an hour later, after leaving a pharmacy in the city center, Hugh caught sight of Bethan’s parents from afar.
They’d just exited the supermarket, arms full of groceries.
Clearly struggling with the weight, they set the bags down by the roadside to catch their breath.
Hugh was about to step in and offer a hand when Arthur came dashing across the street. He quickly grabbed a few of the bags and escorted the elderly couple safely to the other side.
Stunned, Hugh stood there, as if his feet were glued to the ground.
He was well aware that Bethan’s parents weren’t too fond of seeing him. Still, he’d hoped to do something for them, to show 3/6

his goodwill.

But Arthur had stolen that chance right from under his nose, leaving him feeling like an outsider.
It wasn’t the first time he’d felt this way; such moments of redundancy had been haunting Hugh for a while, filling him with an inescapable sense of helplessness that was slowly driving him mad.
Hugh barely remembered how he got home. He stood under the cold shower, hoping the icy water would snap him out of his misery.
But the more awake he became, the deeper the pain cut.
Around eight in the evening, Mason dropped by.
He plopped a thermos on the coffee table and said, “Hey, this is some soup Bethan made herself. I told her I wanted to take some for my grandma, and she was kind enough to scoop it out for me.”
With that, Mason left, leaving Hugh alone with the thermos.
Hugh sat on the sofa, wrapped in a dark bathrobe.
He stared at the thermos for what felt like an eternity before finally opening it.
The familiar smell wafted up, triggering a flood of memories.

It had been ages since he’d last tasted Bethan’s cooking.
How long exactly?
Lucky Draw
It all started when Megan came back. Ever since then, Bethan had stopped cooking for him.
