Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 36

Chapter 36 Not Up To You

Hugh glanced at Bethan, gently pushed her aside, and stepped forward.

Ryan pointed at Hugh and ordered Logan, “Get on with it! Whip him till he backs down.”

With no other choice, Logan reluctantly raised the whip.

Bethan turned away, unable to watch.

In the quiet living room, the sound of the whip cracking against Hugh’s back and the muffled grunts he tried to hold back filled the air.

After a few lashes, Fiona couldn’t take it anymore. With tears in her eyes, she sobbed, “Harvey, stop it! You can’t keep going like this.”

Taking this opportunity, Bethan, who had been silent all this time, spoke up, “Harvey, if you don’t want me to work at the hospital and bring shame to the Cavill family, I’ve got an idea.”

She secretly hoped that this would be a chance to get Harvey to allow her divorce from Hugh.

Logan, who was holding the whip, quickly stepped back.

Bethan glanced at Hugh’s bleeding back and said, “If you agree Harvey’s shrewd eyes darted between Bethan and Hugh. “You two want a divorce?”

Hugh quickly replied, “Grandpa, we don’t.”

Bethan subtly pulled her hand back.

She hesitated for a moment and was about to speak again when Hugh struggled to his feet and pulled her in front of him.

His face was pale, and his look toward Bethan carried a warning. “You can act crazy with me at home, but in front of Grandpa, Mom, and Dad, you need to behave yourself.”

Bethan lowered her eyes, without a word.

She knew Hugh wasn’t afraid of her bringing up divorce in front of the elders; he was afraid that she’d expose Megan and their son.

Fiona walked over to Bethan and tried to smooth things over. “Harvey, you’ve punished him. The kids know they were wrong. Let Hugh go upstairs and have Bethan clean his wounds. We can’t have him in bad shape for the shareholders’ meeting next Monday.”

But Harvey still wouldn’t let Bethan off the hook. “Bethan, you’ve got a week to quit that job. Otherwise, I’ll call the hospital’s dean myself.” remember when your family business went bankrupt back then, your family was on the verge of living in a shack. If it weren’t for Hugh paying off your debts, you’d be nothing today.”

Bethan retorted, “I owe your grandson, but I don’t owe you.”

She still owed Hugh a billion dollars.

As he always said, he was a businessman and never did anything unprofitable.

Without paying off the debt, there was no way he’d let her go easily.

The atmosphere was oppressively heavy, and both of them looked grim.

Hugh sat on the edge of the bed, his face gloomy and his eyes lowered, making it hard to fathom his real thoughts.

Bethan frowned as she stared at the whip wounds on Hugh’s back.

The first time Hugh took a whipping for her was when he insisted on fulfilling the marriage contract and marrying her.

marriage.

As she looked back, there was a bit of defiance in Hugh’s decision to marry her.

Harvey disliked Megan for her ordinary family background and broke them up. So, Hugh deliberately married a bankrupt heiress to go against his grandfather.
