Chapter 38 Get A Paternity Test
If he got whipped again, he’d probably end up in the hospital.
She knew that getting soft-hearted towards a man might not end well.
But over the years, Fiona had treated her sincerely, and Gwen had always been on her side, defending her unconditionally.
She didn’t want to see them so worried.
As Bethan reached the corridor outside Harvey’s study, two servants blocked her way. “Mrs. Cavill, Sir Cavill has ordered that no one is allowed to pass.”
Bethan frowned. “Don’t worry. I’ll take responsibility for anything that happens.”
Seeing that the servants still didn’t move, she warned them, “I may not have a high status in this family, but I’m still a part of the Cavill family. It’s just a matter of a single word for me to fire you.”
The two servants exchanged a look and then stepped aside.
Bethan tiptoed towards the study door.
She didn’t have the habit of eavesdropping and just wanted to make sure if Hugh was getting whipped again.
After a moment of hesitation, she summoned up the courage to crack the door open a little.
Just then, Hugh’s angry voice came from inside. “The woman I want to marry is Megan, not Bethan!
“If you guys hadn’t meddled back then, Megan and I would have been together long ago. You ruined Megan and my happiness with your own hands!”
At the study door, Bethan stood rooted to the spot, her mind in a complete whirlwind and her entire being in a daze.
Staggering backward with wobbly steps, she finally stopped when her back hit the cold wall.
Weakly bending over, she gasped for air, but the pain still spread like wildfire through her body.
After bottling up his feelings for so long, Hugh’s pent-up emotions finally exploded.
He at last voiced what had been weighing heavily on his heart.
Hugh was head-over-heels in love with Megan and desired to marry her.
He held a deep resentment towards Harvey for tearing them apart years ago and robbing him of his happiness.
