Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 382

Chapter 382 Who Could Truly Understand?

As Bethan stepped into the living room, she was confronted by Ryan.

Once the charismatic chairman of the Cavill Group and the domineering patriarch of the Cavill family, he now couldn’t even manage to walk unaided.

Hunched over with greying temples, he looked as if decades of

age

had been added to him overnight.

Spotting Bethan, Ryan stopped unsteadily, shrugging off those who were supporting him. In front of everyone, he pointed at her, his whole body shaking violently.

“Mr. Ryan Cavill, if you think I shouldn’t be here, I’ll leave right away,” Bethan said.

Ryan’s finger, which had been aimed at Bethan, slowly moved towards the master bedroom on the first floor. His voice quivered as he said, “Thanks for your trouble.”

This reaction from Ryan took Bethan by surprise.

She never expected that, in his deepest grief, Ryan would be polite to her.

Without a word, Bethan made her way to the room. Fiona had just come to.

At the sight of Bethan, she burst into tears.

Those around her left the room.

With tear-filled eyes, Bethan sat by Fiona’s bedside, hugged her, and said, “Fiona, I’m sorry.”

Seeing Bethan finally shed tears, Arthur, who was standing at the door, let out a sigh of relief.

Mason asked Arthur to keep an eye on the room and then went to find Gwen.

In the side-hall on the first floor of the Cavill Manor, Mason put his hand on Gwen’s shoulder, inviting her to lean on him.

Gwen threw herself into Mason’s arms, sobbing, “Mason, I’m scared!”

Overnight, she’d lost her brother and grandfather. Her parents were so devastated that they were on the verge of a breakdown.

Group.

Amidst her sorrow and determination to hold on, she was filled with dread about the future.

Mason wrapped his arms around Gwen and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll be with you, even if the sky falls. After the funeral, I’ll move in. I’ll go to work with you at the Cavill Group and help you take care of Mr. Ryan Cavill and Mrs. Fiona Cavill.”

At three in the morning, Mason called Bethan out of the room.

“Hugh and Sir Cavill will be cremated tomorrow morning. Come with me to his place to pick out a suit. We gotta change him into it before the cremation,” he said.

More than an hour later, Bethan and Mason entered the home she’d once shared with Hugh.

Standing in the entrance hall, Bethan immediately noticed two pairs of fluffy women’s slippers on the shoe rack, neatly placed beside Hugh’s.

In the living room, everything was just as she’d left it. The glass she’d used was still there.

Mason pointed at it and said, “I had a video call with Hugh last night. He didn’t show his face. Gwen and I were worried about him, so we left early, bought a cake, and went to see him. By the time we found him, it was too late.”

Bethan just stood there, fixated on the cake box, not reacting at all.

Four years her senior, Hugh was thirty-one while she was

twenty-seven.

During the birthday dinner, she’d declared that twenty-seven marked the start of a new chapter in her life.

Little did Bethan foresee that this very day would spell the end for Hugh.

One after the other, they walked into the master bedroom.

The room was exactly as they’d left it, but there was a strong

stench of blood.

Bethan stopped in her tracks. Mason paused at the entrance of the cloakroom. With a heavy heart, he told Bethan, “Hugh had his accident in this cloakroom. It happened so suddenly that we haven’t had time to clean it up yet.”

Nearby, a medicine bottle and a few pills were strewn about.

She made her way over and picked them up.

Oxycodone. A heavy-hitter painkiller.

With a tight grip on the bottle, she stared back at the dried blood. Her thoughts screeched to a halt.

Mason had to shout her name a few times to snap her out of it.

She was as rigid as a board.

As she moved forward, a gift box on the table took a tumble.

Noticing her spiraling mood, Mason stepped in, steadying her. He then crouched down to retrieve the fallen gift.
