Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 388

Chapter 388 Promised to Be My Wife

After a brief moment of hesitation, Bethan gave a nod.

She knew it was high time to have a heart-to-heart with Hugh.

Silently, they made their way out of the neighborhood.

As the city lights illuminated the streets, the streetlamps stretched their shadows long on the pavement.

At a street corner, Bethan halted beneath a lamp post. Standing on the sidewalk’s edge, she fixed Hugh with a serious look.

Since he turned eighteen, Harvey and Ryan had been easing him into the business realm.

Towering at over six feet, he sported a crisp white shirt. Today, his hair wasn’t gelled up; the natural fall made him appear a tad less imposing. Yet, his strikingly good-looking face still held a sophistication beyond his years.

Bethan was acutely aware that beneath his charming exterior lay a cold and ruthless nature.

While she was go her in.

A recent graduate, Bethan was dressed in a figure-hugging dress. Her long, silky hair was pulled back into a ponytail, exuding youthful energy.

With her unblemished skin and perfect features, she resembled a delicate doll, inviting people to draw near.

Hugh stood on the road by the curb.

Gazing into Bethan’s eyes, he inquired, “We were set to get married today. What made you take off all of a sudden?”

His voice was tentative, laced with a hint of probing.

Bethan couldn’t help but frown.

If she launched into a tirade about how he’d been a scoundrel in her past life and haunted her even after death, she was pretty sure Hugh would have her shipped off to a loony bin right away.

After a short pause, Bethan said earnestly, “Hugh, we’re not a good match. Given how the men in your Cavill family are, I’d be in for a world of pain if I married into it.”

Hugh shot back without hesitation, “I’m here. I won’t let anyone lay a finger on you!”

The one she dreaded most was this very guy.

Looking for an out, she said, “Even though my family’s gone bust, I deserve a proper proposal, don’t I?”

Hugh regarded her with an uncharacteristically serious expression. “Tell me what I’ve done wrong. I’ll make it right,” he declared.

He realized he’d been too hasty and resolved to go back and plan a grand proposal.

Bethan found Hugh’s behavior tonight odd. He was usually so aloof and proud, not like this at all.

Biting her lower lip, she studied him intently.

Could he have had a second chance at life like her?

Nah, impossible.

If Hugh had, he’d be moping around, begging for forgiveness, just like before.

Bethan told him firmly, “I’ve thought it through. I’ll pay you back what I owe and move out of your place. This wedding’s off.”
