Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 389

Chapter 389 You’re Like Brother to Me

After some deep reflection, Bethan reckoned that with the wedding just around the corner, Hugh was likely concerned about looking bad if it didn’t happen as scheduled.

She gathered her scattered thoughts and told Hugh straight-up, “Look, this wedding’s off. We’ll deal with our parents separately. I’ll pay back what the Olsen family owes you pronto.”

As she tried to turn away, Hugh shot out his hand and grabbed her wrist.

Caught unawares, her foot on the curb went airborne.

Without thinking, Bethan reached out for Hugh, and he stepped in close, pulling her into a tight embrace.

Bethan, still shaken, tried to wriggle free, but Hugh held her fast.

Amid the tussle, he grumbled, “You promised to be my wife, and you picked the date. You can’t just bail on me now!”

Bethan was sweating from the struggle.

Pushing against truth, let me go for a sec.”

Hugh loosened his grip a bit but kept her close.

Bethan took a deep breath and laid it on the line.

“Hugh, I’m calling it off because I realized my feelings for you aren’t what I thought.

Hugh’s face grew stony. “What do you mean, ‘not what you thought”?”

They locked eyes.

After a short pause, Bethan continued, “Since we were kids, I’ve always stuck to you, leaned on you. You were like an older brother to me. Saying I loved you and wanted to marry you? That was just talk. I didn’t know jack about love.”

She stressed, adding, “When my family went under and everyone turned their backs, I saw you as our only hope. You get what I’m saying? You…”

“I don’t buy it!” Hugh cut her off mid-sentence.

Bethan finally wriggled free and stepped back onto the curb.

“I got my wires crossed between love and family. You’re i real brother to IEVONY

Before she could finish, Hugh clasped her neck and planted a passionate kiss on her lips.

His kiss was fierce and full of longing, as if he was desperate to prove something.

The more she fought it, the deeper he kissed.

Before Bethan knew it, he’d pinned her against a tree on the sidewalk. Hugh only stopped when Bethan was too worn out to resist.

Leaning against the tree trunk, Bethan gasped for breath, her eyes red-rimmed.
