Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 402

Chapter 402 Looking for Ghosts?

Sitting in the car, Hugh was lost in the memories of Bethan’s conversation with Yvonne earlier. His fingers absent-mindedly

stroked the fabric of his slacks.

A man couldn’t stand constant nagging.

By now, Hugh was almost certain that Bethan wasn’t reborn.

He’d simply let his imagination run wild.

Bethan’s abrupt cancelation of the wedding was likely due to the urging of her friends.

She’d always been at odds with his grandfather and father, and was disenchanted with him. With a bit of prodding from those around her, it was only natural for her to back down.

Yvonne’s words about getting over an old flame by finding a new one sent a jolt through Hugh. Anxiety gnawed at him.

Whether or not Bethan had fallen for someone else, he was

determined not to give up on her.

That night, Bethan reserved a private booth on the first floor of Regal Club to host two out-of-town classmates.

While waiting for them, she bumped into Mason.

The memory of Mason tricking her into going to the Cavill family’s private airport by using Barry came back to her.

Mason tried to slip away unnoticed, but Bethan grabbed his collar and plopped him down on the seat.

Bethan knelt on the seat, pinning Mason in front of her and slapping him repeatedly. “Finally caught you!” she hissed.

“You lied to me for your buddy, and you even used my brother! Don’t you have a conscience?” She smacked him without mercy.

Mason covered his head and face. “It was my mistake. I promised it wouldn’t happen again,” he pleaded.

At his plea, Bethan stopped.

Mason quickly took out his phone and checked his hair using the phone camera. “I’ve told you a million times, don’t hit a guy in the face or on the head!”

Bethan helped him straighten his jacket. “You wouldn’t let me hit your butt, would you?”

Just then, a flashy middle-aged man walked by.

Bethan and Mason made eye contact with the man, then glanced at each other, and started whispering and chuckling, 2/7

Shortly after, Bethan waved to her two friends from afar.

Mason got up and left.

Not far away, Hugh stood with a scowl on his face.

It was unclear how long he’d been there, his intense gaze shifting between Bethan and Mason.

So, the guy Bethan talked about, the one who’d never let her down, got along well with her, and whose identity she was hesitant to disclose, was Mason?

Jealousy flared up inside Hugh like a wildfire.

A little over ten minutes later, up on the second-floor private room, the air was filled with the murmur of idle chatter.

Hugh was there, shooting the breeze with a few mates, when in walked Mason.

Bethan glanced at Hugh, then at Mason.

However, Mason was totally confused by Hugh’s odd behavior this night.

He pulled Bethan close and whispered in her ear, “I’ll take you home. I’ve got something to tell you.”

Bethan cleared her throat and said to Hugh, “You go do your thing. I’ll let Mason take me.”

As Hugh saw them huddle and whisper before hopping into the 5/7 cab, his face turned as gloomy as a storm cloud.

Nearly at the stroke of midnight, Mason strolled out of the elevator, whistling a tune.

He almost had a heart attack when he saw Hugh, in dark-colored pajamas, standing stock-still in front of his door.

Mason clutched his chest and yelped, “What the hell are you doing here in the middle of the night? You’re nuts!”

“Can’t catch any Zs. Thought I’d come over for a drink,” Hugh replied.

Mason unlocked the door, and they stepped inside.

After fetching a bottle of wine, Mason sauntered into the living room. “The wedding’s off. Why’d you even move in?”

Hugh stood in the living room, his eyes scanning every nook and cranny.

The more Mason watched Hugh, the weirder he seemed. “What, you snooping around my place for something?”

After a moment of eye-to-eye, Hugh sank onto the sofa.

Taking the glass from Mason, Hugh suddenly said, “I’m thinking of sending Gwen overseas for a few years of study. What do you reckon?”

Mason blurted out without thinking, “She’s doing great at NYU. Why send her abroad all of a sudden?”
