Chapter 41 I Want to Marry Megan
Tears streaming down her face, Bethan let out a bitter laugh. “Then what the hell is it?
“Did I imagine it when you said you were gonna marry Megan, not me?
“Did I mishear when you said your grandpa split you two up and you were miserable with me?
“Did I dream it when you admitted the kid was your flesh and blood?
“Did I hallucinate when you threatened your grandpa and dad with the Cavill family and the Cavill Group to take care of Megan and her son…”
As she ranted on, Bethan was almost losing it. “Hugh, I don’t want this kind of marriage, and I sure as hell don’t want this kind of husband. No way!”
Hugh wrapped his arms around her tightly, stroking her back to soothe her. “Bethan, just forget everything you heard outside the study today!”
“I can’t forget, and I’ll never be able to in my whole life!”
Bethan thrashed about in Hugh’s arms, on the verge of a total breakdown.
She was a living, breathing person, not a corpse.
She’d witnessed it all with her own eyes and heard it with her own cars. How could she possibly forget?
Once they got home, Hugh carric Bethan straight into the master bedroom on the second floor.
Hugh’s phone kept buzzing. He held Bethan’s wrist with one hand and reached for the phone with the other.
He tried to reason with her. “I had a meeting with the president of Harmony Group this morning. I’ve already stood him up. Just stop throwing a fit for a sec, and let me call him back.”
Bethan lunged forward, snatched the phone from Hugh, and hurled it across the room. “If you want me to calm down, go buy me the morning-after pill.”
No matter what, she couldn’t get pregnant with Hugh’s child.
Hugh stared at the phone by the wall for a few seconds but didn’t move to pick it up.
He stood in front of Bethan, grasping her wrists in both hands.
As gently as he could, he spoke to her, “Even with Megan and her son around, they won’t affect your status in the Cavill family or our marriage.”
Bethan’s face was so pale it was worrying.
She could barely muster the strength to speak, “Hugh, they’ve already messed up my married life big-time.
