Chapter 412 You’ll See Soon Enough
Late at night, in the private room of the Regal Club, Hugh sat alone, swirling the rich red wine in his glass, his mind clouded with frustration.
After a while, the door creaked open, and Mason stepped in. Spotting him, Hugh merely lifted his eyelids, blearily offering a look before pouring another glass and sliding it across the small table.
Mason took the glass but didn’t drink. His eyes zeroed in on the bruises faintly visible on Hugh’s face. “Gwen mentioned you had a hell of a fight with your family. What happened?”
Silence. Hugh tipped his head back and took a long swig of the wine, the liquid burning its way down his throat.
Mason took the glass from Hugh’s hand. “Is it all because of Bethan?”
Hugh let out a heavy sigh, sinking deeper into the plush sofa.
Actually, he wished so badly that it was about Bethan.
He yearned to sever all ties with his grandfather and father for her; to abandon every privilege and simply be with her.
Herdaydreamed about Bethan noticing him, giving hi hat9:58
But as reality set in, Hugh knew these were nothing more than pipe dreams.
Leaning forward, Hugh refilled his glass.
His soulful eyes fixated on the swirling red liquid.
“My grandad and dad keep yapping about giving me everything in the Cavill family. But behind my back, they’re snooping on my accounts, meddling in my personal life, and sending goons to trail me like a criminal.”
A pang of suffocation hit Hugh in the chest.
He had an overwhelming urge to just up and leave this place.
Mason asked, concern lacing his voice, “You seriously thinking of ditching your inheritance?”
Letting out a humorless laugh, Hugh said, “No way in hell.”
He was determined to take control of his own life from now on.
Mason prodded, “What’s your plan then?”
With a meaningful glance at Mason, Hugh replied, “You’ll see soon enough.”
The days passed, and Hugh kept his distance from Bethan.
Before long, it was the end of the month, and the crisp New York air had turned decidedly cold.
