Chapter 414 That's What You Taught Me
Before long, it was the day before Bethan's birthday.
Before, she and Hugh always celebrated their birthdays together, and there'd be tons of people.
Since the Olsen family went bankrupt, Mason had always set up the birthday venue at the Regal Hotel in advance.
This year was no exception.
Mason and Gwen had decorated the birthday banquet hall early and invited their circle of friends.
Just as Mason was telling the staff to brighten the lights, Hugh pushed open the door and walked in.
Mason casually slung his jacket over his shoulder. "You don't trust my work?"
When Hugh's eyes fell on the red rose wall in front, his gaze wavered.
Pointing at the wall of bright red roses, he told the staff with a cold face, "Replace all the red roses."
Mason looked totally confused. "Hey, you didn't use red roses on your proposal day, and now you want to replace them again. Are you allergic to red roses?"
Hugh lowered his eyes and mumbled, "Red is so tacky."
In his past life, he'd ordered a bunch of red roses for Megan.
Ever since then, Bethan couldn't stand the sight of red roses.
Mason stared at Hugh for a long time and then told the staff to remove all the red roses.
"Roses symbolize love, you know. I'm trying to help you here," he said.
Hugh dipped his head and fell silent.
Mason continued, "Red roses represent passionate and true love. They're perfect for a confession.
"Purple roses are for dreams, nobility, and love at first sight.
"Champagne-colored roses symbolize mystery and romance.
"White roses stand for purity, holiness, and first love, like a brand-new start and eternity. They're great for weddings."
After Mason rambled on for a while, he said, "Pick a color, and I'll have them replace the flowers."
"White roses," Hugh replied.
Mason then got the staff to change all the flowers in the venue to white roses.
Then he handed a list to Hugh. "Here are the drinks, fruits, cakes, snacks, and meals for tomorrow night. Take a look and see if you want to change anything. Do it all at once."
At the sight of "blueberry cake" on the list, Hugh had a strong reaction.
He clenched the list tightly, felt his blood rush, and a familiar pain in his heart.
Seeing Hugh's grim face, Mason took the list and examined it carefully.
Scratching his head, he said, "If you don't like something, just say so, and I'll replace it. No need to react so strongly."
Hugh glowered at Mason with his eyes.
Before she could finish her sentence, Ryan's furious voice cut through the air. "You don't show up at the company and ignore your phone. What are you thinking?"
Hugh met his glare unflinchingly. "I'm giving you a shot to find someone else to take my place."
Ryan's outstretched finger trembled as he tried to find the words. "You..."
Meanwhile, Harvey, looking as grim as a thundercloud, settled onto the sofa, propping himself up with a cane.
He wasted no time and fired a question at Hugh. "In just a few days, you've handed over several core projects of the company to an obscure overseas startup. Come clean. Is that company yours?"
Hugh sauntered up to Harvey and decided to be upfront. "Since you've already figured it out, why bother asking?"
The air crackled with tension as the two locked gazes.
Ryan, boiling with anger, burst out, "The whole Cavill Group is gonna be yours one day. Why transfer the core projects to your own name? It's just a waste of time!"
Hugh let out a sarcastic laugh. "The Cavill Group isn't mine. It belongs to you and Grandpa. I'm just a puppet dancing to your tunes!"
Ryan was left sputtering, unable to form a coherent response.
Then, Hugh dropped a bombshell. "I've planned everything, both the projects and the cash flow. By next week at the latest, half of the Cavill Group's assets will disappear into thin air. You'd better get ready for it."
Ryan's face turned red with rage. His finger wagging at his son, he shouted, "You bastard! I've busted my ass for the Cavill family and for you, and you're stabbing me in the back by draining the company!
"I'm your father, for crying out loud! We're family!"
"Business is business. You can't let your feelings cloud your judgment. That's what you taught me, Dad," Hugh retorted coolly.
