Nancy and Elsie were about to fight back when they looked up and saw it was Gwen, the Cavill family's heiress, who'd hit them. Immediately, their spunk fizzled out.
Gwen was notorious in the socialite scene for her fiery temper. The two didn't even dare to utter a peep in retaliation.
Bethan then pulled Gwen aside and greeted Fiona. "Hello, Fiona."
The elevator doors slid open. Fiona, with a handbag gracefully slung over her arm, led Bethan and Gwen into the elevator, not even bothering to spare a glance at the two still hunkered on the floor.
"Can you believe it? That bitch's wedding with Mr. Cavill was called off. So why's she still so thick with the Cavills?" Nancy said, getting up and covering her face in disbelief.
Elsie leaned in. "Let's tail them and find out."
In a rush, they hopped into another elevator to follow.
When Bethan, along with Fiona and Gwen, reached the birthday-party venue, Fiona made a beeline for Bethan's parents.
The place was decked out in white rose petals. They were scattered on the stage, the champagne tower, and even carpeting the floor. There was an entire wall plastered with white roses, creating a dreamy, romantic ambiance under the soft lighting.
If it weren't for the sign with the name on it, Bethan would've thought she'd wandered into the wrong place.
Most of the guests had already arrived, chatting in small groups.
Some greeted Bethan upon seeing her, while others pretended she was invisible.
There were also those who flocked to Fiona and Gwen, all smiles and flattery.
Bethan took in everyone's reactions and just smiled.
In the past, even after the Olsen family went bankrupt, whenever she and Hugh had their birthdays, friends would gather and have a blast.
But now, after the wedding was canceled, most people's attitude toward her had completely changed.
Chances were, most of them were here for Hugh.
It was her birthday. If others didn't come to her, she just let them be.
If it were up to her, she'd rather celebrate simply with her parents and brother at home.
Yvonne pulled Bethan to a quiet corner. "Bethan, with all these white roses, is Hugh gonna propose to you again tonight?"
Gwen popped up behind them. "Bethan, is Hugh gonna give you a surprise?"
But Bethan scoffed to herself.
She didn't know if Hugh had a surprise for her, but she definitely had one for him.
The person she was waiting for should show up soon.
While the three were chatting, Tristen walked in with his little sister, Gloria.
Bethan stepped forward to greet him. "Tristen."
Tristen handed her the gift and told his sister to be well-behaved.
So, Gloria skipped up to Bethan, all smiles. "Bethan, you're so pretty. Are you Tristen's girlfriend?"
Tristen frowned and scolded, "Gloria, don't blabber."
"Ms. Dixon, I'm not good enough for Tristen." Bethan felt a bit awkward.
Tristen quickly apologized. "Gloria's been spoiled by us. She always puts her foot in her mouth. Don't take it to heart."
Gloria clung to Bethan's arm. "Bethan, Tristen never goes to girls' birthday parties. You're the first. I bet you're the one he likes!"
Bethan was at a loss for words.
Covering his sister's mouth with one hand, Tristen grabbed her collar with the other, dragging her away.
Yvonne whispered in Bethan's ear, "Bethan, Tristen's decent. Think about it?"
