Chapter 46 Live Apart
Deep down, she knew she couldn’t afford a billion for a divorce even if she sold everything she had.
But she couldn’t keep going like this.
Her life was in shambles, and she needed to focus on her work.
Bethan had to break free from this mess.
Everyone caught the hidden meaning in her words.
It wasn’t just a longing for home; she was clearly planning to separate from Hugh and was gearing up for a divorce.
Fiona stepped forward to persuade her. “Bethan, if it’s a hassle staying where you are now, you can move to Blue Bay Community. It’s just a stone’s throw from the hospital where you work.”
Bethan shook her head. “Thanks, Fiona, but I really want to go back and live with my parents.”
Hugh stared at her blankly, then walked up and said, “It’s okay to go back to your parents’ place for a few days. I’ll come get you later.”
Bethan didn’t say no.
For the moment, getting back to her parents’ and separating from Hugh was her top priority.
Miranda helped Bethan out of the ward. Hugh followed, but Vincent stopped him.
Vincent then turned to Fiona. “We’ll take her home first,” he said.
Fiona understood Vincent was trying to save face for the Cavill family. He’d left some words unsaid.
She couldn’t stop them. So, she accompanied them all the way to the hospital entrance.
Seeing Vincent calling an online car-hailing service, Hugh stepped forward. “Let me drive you guys home,” he offered.
But the look in Vincent’s eyes when he looked at Hugh was no longer full of pride.
He flat-out refused. “No, you go do your own thing.”
Hugh then walked over to Bethan
He tentatively reached for her arm. “Bethan, it’s boiling outside. If you don’t wanna see me, I’ll have the driver take you guys home,” he said.
Bethan didn’t even glance up. She dodged his hand and moved closer to Miranda.
Hugh looked at Miranda. “Miranda…” he pleaded.
Miranda stared at him with a mix of accusation and restraint in her eyes.
Bethan had always been the apple of her parents’ eyes, so it was no small feat for them to simply accept her return. However, this time, circumstances had taken a different turn.
Upon arriving home with her parents, Bethan found her mother bustling around to tidy up her room while her father rushed out to grab some groceries.
Despite the turmoil within. Bethan summoned her strength and pitched in.
As evening descended, Vincent was busy cooking in the kitchen, and Bethan was outside, helping her mom sort through the vegetables.
After much hesitation, Bethan finally blurted out, “Dad, Mom, I’m thinking of living apart with Hugh.”
Vincent, who was stir-frying in the kitchen, heard his daughter’s words and hung his head even lower.
Miranda, having suspected this for a while, asked gently, “Bethy, tell Mom the truth. Is there another woman in Hugh’s life?”
Bethan fought back her emotions, but her eyes welled up with tears. “His first love is back, and she’s had a son with him. He’s been keeping them on the side.”
Hearing this, Vincent slammed the pan down, turned off the stove, and strode out of the kitchen.
“Even if our family is in tough times, we won’t stand for this kind of nonsense.”
Miranda, who’d seen it coming, didn’t beat around the bush. “Divorce him, Bethy. Listen to Mom. A man who’s cheated isn’t worth it.”
Bethan looked at her parents and said with difficulty, “Hugh’s already agreed to the divorce, but our family’s gotta pay him a billion dollars back.”
