Chapter 47 I Was So Wrong
Miranda, who’d seen it coming, didn’t beat around the bush. “Divorce him, Bethy. Listen to Mom. A man who’s cheated isn’t worth it.”
Bethan looked at her parents and said with difficulty, “Hugh’s already agreed to the divorce, but our family’s gotta pay him a billion dollars back.”
Vincent’s hand holding the spatula shook uncontrollably.
Miranda tenderly took Bethan’s hand. “Silly girl, why didn’t you tell us sooner?”
Bethan sobbed as she tried to comfort her parents, “Dad, Mom, don’t worry. I’ll find a way to divorce him.”
Vincent glanced at his wife, yet the tough-looking man’s eyes brimmed with tears.
Miranda let go of Bethan and quietly made her way to the bedroom.
A short while later, she emerged with a black password-locked suitcase in hand.
She opened it to reveal a set of jewelry.
It was a magnificent collection of top-grade diamonds, clearly worth a fortune. Bethan thought it looked vaguely familiar.
Miranda said to Bethan, “This set of jewelry is the heirloom of our Queen family. It’s been passed down for four generations to me. Back when the Olsen family went bankrupt, your dad and I sold everything we had to pay off the debts. I just couldn’t bear to part with this set. I wanted to keep it as a safety net for you and your brother’s future.
“When Hugh paid off the Olsen family’s debts, your dad and I offered him this jewelry, but he turned it down. Since he’s asking for the money now, we gotta pay him back. This jewelry is worth over a billion dollars. Take it and sell it to settle the score with Hugh. Mom’s got your back on this divorce.”
Bethan felt like a drowning person who’d just spotted a life raft.
She sobbed uncontrollably, “Dad, Mom, I was so wrong!”
When she was young, she’d given up playing the violin, her one true passion, for Hugh. She’d even switched her college major for him.
After marrying Hugh, her whole world revolved around him. Bethan had quit her job, cooked for him, and studied aromatherapy and traditional medicine to help him with his insomnia.
She’d done everything for Hugh but forgotten to look out for herself.
Over the years, she’d neglected her parents, and now Bethan had to rely on selling her mother’s family heirloom to get a divorce.
She felt like the world’s most unfilial daughter.
But this was the only way out of her marriage with Hugh.
“Dad, Mom, I’ll make enough money in my lifetime and buy this jewelry back!”
