Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 55

Chapter 55 No Other Way But Divorce

Lucky Draw

Bethan thought Hugh was being so phony, but she didn’t want to ruin the mood by blurting out their divorce plans.

Instead, she smoothly changed the subject. “Ms. Stone, let me know when you’re heading back to New York, okay?”

Anne, who’d taken time out of her busy schedule, couldn’t stay long. “Don’t you worry. Next time I’m on tour in New York, I’ll definitely crash at your place for a few days.”

A dozen minutes later, Hugh and Bethan accompanied Anne to the elevator.

As the elevator doors slid shut, Bethan shrugged off Hugh’s hand on her shoulder.

Hugh grabbed her wrist to stop her from leaving. “Bethan, we need to have a proper chat.”

Bethan tried to yank her hand free, but Hugh tightened his grip.

Staring intently into her eyes, Hugh asked, “You gonna walk on your own, or do I have to carry you?”

Bethan looked around and shook off his hand. “Let go. I’ll walk myself.”

Back in the suite, Hugh closed the door behind them.

Standing in front of the living-room sofa, Bethan said coldly, “Hugh, I’m serious about the divorce. It’s not a fit of anger or a passing thought. You’ve read the divorce agreement. I’ll pay you back the billion within a month. There’s nothing more to talk

about.”

Hugh stepped up to Bethan and stared at her intently. “Did you sell your mom’s jewelry?”

Bethan turned her head away. “That’s my business, none of yours.”

Hugh frowned. “That jewelry meant the world to your mom. How could you sell it just to get a divorce from me?”

Bethan’s eyes welled up. “If I didn’t sell the jewelry to pay you back, would you agree to the divorce?”

They locked eyes, and Hugh fell silent.

Bethan pushed past Hugh and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the dark sky outside. “The jewelry did mean a lot to my mom, but she’d rather give it up for her daughter’s happiness.”

Hugh hesitated and then made a concession. “Bethan, let’s just stay as we are for a while and cool off, but you can’t sell the jewelry.”

Bethan turned to face Hugh and said firmly, “My parents will give it all if it means getting divorced from you!”

Hugh’s hand on the sofa back tightened involuntarily, and his chest heaved.

He knew better than anyone how much Bethan’s parents loved her.

Walking up to Bethan step by step, he put his hands on her shoulders and pleaded, “Bethan, tell me what I can do to stop you from divorcing me.”

Bethan shook her head. “It’s too late, Hugh. Just the thought of you getting back with your old flame and having a son makes me

sick.

“There’s no other way but divorce.”

Unable to hold back, Hugh pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly so she couldn’t break free.

He pleaded, “Bethan, I know it isn’t fair to you. But if you can just accept Megan and her son, I’ll sign over all my property to you!”

Trapped in his embrace, Bethan let him hold her for a moment. “Hugh, even then, I can’t stop you from shelling out cash for them or being all cozy with them.

“Hugh, I’m all grown up now. I’m not that dumb girl who’d jump at your every word. You can’t pull the wool over my eyes anymore.”

Hugh drew her even closer, savoring the moment.

He whispered, “Bethan, I’m not lying. Name your price. I’ll settle things with Megan and her son. After that, I’ll just give them a hand when they need it, and I won’t spend a dime on them behind your back. Cross my heart.”

Bethan wriggled free and made her way back to the sofa, putting some space between them.

“Hugh, don’t you get it? This isn’t about the money!”

She had a thing for pure emotions, and Hugh was already soiled.

No matter how much it hurt, she couldn’t take him back.

On the verge of losing it, Bethan’s voice trembled.

“Hugh, I can’t stand the thought of my husband cheating on me, still loving his first love, and having a kid with another woman!

“Just thinking about you with them makes me wanna puke. I can’t be near you anymore!”

The look of determination in Bethan’s eyes made Hugh’s heart
