His kiss was urgent, full of raw desire, as if he was trying to prove something.
In the scuffle, Hugh’s phone slipped out of his pocket and started buzzing. Bethan accidentally hit the answer button without either of them noticing.
“Let’s have a baby, Bethan.” Hugh’s kiss was full of undisguised lust. Bethan’s struggles and soft moans left Megan on the other end of the line speechless.
Megan’s panicked voice came through. “Hugh, you there?
“The child’s got a fever again. He won’t stop crying. I’m at my wits’ end. Can you come over?”
The moment of passion was shattered by Megan’s plea.
Hugh quickly let go of Bethan and helped her sit up.
He picked up the phone, his voice gentle. “Megan, don’t cry. Take it easy and tell me what’s going on.”
Bethan got up and headed for the door.
Hugh reached out to grab her.
On the phone, Megan’s sobbing was getting on Bethan’s nerves.

Bethan stared into Hugh’s eyes and said coldly, “Hugh, after knowing you for over twenty years, I’ve never thought you were so disgusting.”
With that, she stormed out of Hugh’s suite, slamming the door behind her.
On the phone, Megan suddenly stopped crying.
“Hugh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were with your wife. Don’t come. I’ll figure it out myself.”
And with that, Megan hung up in a hurry.
The next morning, Bethan woke up and found a message from Hugh.
It turned out he’d checked out of the hotel bright and early.
Taking a deep breath, Bethan managed to shake off the nagging unease and threw herself wholeheartedly into work.
Before she knew it, a week had whooshed by.
Shortly after Bethan returned to New York, the auction house called with the appraisal of her mother’s jewelry set.
After a discussion with her parents, they decided on a reserve price of one point five billion dollars and entrusted the sale to

Glory International Auction House.
With that guaranteed one point five billion in sight, Bethan was confident she could divorce Hugh smoothly and extricate herself from this mess.
It would also ensure Barry could complete his courses at the prestigious school and improve her parents’ living standards.
Her next goal was to work hard and buy back the jewelry set while her parents were still alive.
One morning, as Bethan went to work as per usual, the hospital director, Andrew Carr, invited her to his office.
Andrew addressed her respectfully as “Mrs. Cavill” and gently suggested she resign.
Bethan didn’t make things tough for Andrew. She left his office politely, her heart sinking like a stone.
Back at Cavill Manor, Harvey had given her a week to quit her job, threatening to call the director himself if she didn’t.
It seemed Harvey had run out of patience and stepped in.
As Bethan stepped out of Andrew’s office, she unexpectedly bumped into Hugh, Megan, and the kid near the elevator.
She froze in her tracks.

Hugh was holding the child in his arms, and Megan was snuggled up to him, looking every bit like a loving family.

Even though Bethan had made up her mind to leave, the sight still felt like a knife to the heart.
Their eyes met, and Hugh’s expression tightened.
He quickly put the child down and instinctively started walking towards Bethan.
Megan grabbed his arm. “Hugh, your wife probably doesn’t wanna see us. Hudson’s still got a fever. Take us up first, then go talk to your wife, okay?”
The elevator doors slid open.
Hugh glanced back at Bethan, hesitated for a second, then picked up the child and stepped into the elevator with Megan.
As the doors slowly closed, Bethan turned around resolutely, her heart shattering into a million pieces.
Inside the elevator, Hugh watched Bethan’s determined back, a suffocating pain squeezing his chest.
He’d gone to Seattle hoping to have a heart-to-heart with Bethan and persuade her to move back home.
