Chapter 57 I Remember
Lucky Draw
Bethan was standing by a small river in the park behind the hospital’s inpatient building when she saw Hugh running towards her.
Over the years as childhood sweethearts, she’d run into Hugh’s arms countless times.
When she was happy, she’d laugh when sad, she’d cry.
However, she’d never stopped running towards him.
Even when he’d shunned, warned, or scolded her, being in his arms had always made her feel incredibly happy.
“Bethan.” Hugh stopped in front of her.
Seeing the tears rolling down her cheeks, he reached out to wipe them away.
Bethan turned her head away, realizing she’d been a fool to cry again.
Hugh held her shoulders and stared into her eyes. “Let’s find a place to sit down and talk this out.”
Bethan wriggled out of Hugh’s grip and forced a bitter smile. “I’m alright. Just lost in childhood memories,”

She knew it was time for a heart-to-heart with Hugh and get him to sign the divorce papers pronto.
Standing side by side by the river Bethan stared at the flowing water while Hugh stole glances at her.
He remembered the day when Bethan took her first steps. Her parents, over the moon, brought her to his place.
All the old folks in the room were egging the little girl on to walk.
But Bethan paid them no heed. She tottered right over to him, giggled, and threw herself into his arms, babbling in her baby talk.
Over the years, she’d always been like that, eager to hug and be close to him, not giving a hoot about what others thought.
Bethan never concealed her feelings for him and never cared about others’ looks or opinions.
But ever since he lied about a business trip and spent a whole month with Megan and her son day in and day out, she’d never hugged him of her own accord again.
Hugh’s voice was thick with longing as he said, “Bethan, I’m not gonna explain about Megan and her son. But we’ve been married three years. Even if you don’t trust me one bit, at least give us some time to cool off before you rush into a divorce,

Bethan glanced at him and said calmly, “Hugh, I was really out
of my mind when I found out about your affair.
“I couldn’t sleep at night. I kept overthinking and went hysterical. I even thought about killing myself.”
Hugh swallowed hard. He reached out tentatively to grab Bethan’s hand, but she dodged and took a step back, leaving his hand hanging in the air.
Bethan tilted her head up to meet his eyes. “When I was in so much pain, you thought I was just being a spoiled kid. Every cold look you gave me hurt worse than death.”
Hugh could feel her pain deep in his bones. He wanted to hug her, but his feet felt like they were glued to the ground.
Bethan turned to face him.
Looking him straight in the eye, she said slowly, “Remember the day we got back from our honeymoon and went to Cavill Manor?”
Hugh’s voice was hoarse as he replied, “Yeah, I remember.”
Bethan continued, “I heard your conversation with your father that day.”

With widened eyes, he murmured her name, “Bethan…”
Lucky Draw
Bethan recounted, her voice tinged with a mix of hurt and resignation, “You said that by helping the Olsen family after their bankruptcy, you’d gain both fame and fortune.”
Stepping forward, Hugh grasped Bethan’s shoulders firmly. “Bethan, stop it!”
Undeterred, Bethan continued, her words cutting through the tense air, “You also said marrying me was a second-best choice, a necessary move after weighing all the pros and cons.”
Tears welled up in Bethan’s eyes as she spoke.
Hugh pulled her into his arms. It felt like his heart was being squeezed, making it hard to breathe.
Bethan didn’t fight him. She leaned quietly in his arms and mumbled, “Since then, I’ve never dared to be willful again. I’ve been trying so hard to please you and tiptoe around in the Cavill family. I was so scared you’d get sick of me and leave me.
“Hugh, I’m no longer that arrogant Olsen family princess. Didn’t you notice at all?”
The hospital park was nearly empty that morning.
Everyone who passed by couldn’t help but glance at Hugh and Bethan. Their striking looks drew attention without effort.
