Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 58

Chapter 58 I Haven’t Touched Her

Bethan gently pulled away from Hugh’s arms.

She wiped her tears, steadying herself before speaking, “It was three years of loveless marriage that killed the one I used to be. I don’t blame you, nor will I hate you, because it was my choice.”

Hugh stood silently in front of her, his lips pressed tight. He stared at Bethan’s pale, exhausted face, saying nothing.

She spoke again, gently, trying to reason with him, “Huggie, as the woman you love is back and you also have a son now, you’ve already found your happiness. And I’ve figured out a way to pay you back. Can we just end things peacefully and get a divorce?”

Their eyes met, both rimmed red with unshed tears.

Hugh’s self-control was visibly fraying-veins pulsed at his temples, and his fists clenched tightly at his sides.

“I have been taking care of Megan and the child,” he said finally, voice tense, “but I haven’t touched her.”

Bethan shook her head, tears spilling uncontrollably down her face. “But the fact that you two have a son-that’s something you

can never erase.”

Hugh staggered back a step, the words hitting him hard.

He stood in silence for a long moment before speaking again, “I’m not divorcing you. I know this is hard for you to accept right now, but you can keep staying at your parents’ place. We’ll take the time to work through this.”

Bethan’s composure started to crack. “Hugh, I don’t want to drag this out any longer. Your grandfather made one phone call, and I lost my job. I just want to live my own life. I don’t want to be tied to the Cavill family anymore.”

Hugh stepped forward, his hand hovering near her arm but not quite touching.

His voice softened. “Bethan, if you agree not to divorce me, I promise your job won’t be affected. I’ll transfer all my assets to your name if that’s what it takes. I’ll even put it in writing, write you into my will if you want.”

Bethan shook her head firmly. “I can lose the job. I can walk

away

from the money. But I have to get out of this marriage.”

His hand slowly dropped to his side, and so did the warmth on

his face.

When he spoke again, his voice had turned cold, “Then there’s nothing more to talk about.”

He turned and walked away without a second glance.

Bethan stood by the small riverbank, watching Hugh’s back as

he left. The tears came again-this time from pure frustration.

She had tried so hard to end things peacefully. But he didn’t care -not even a little.

Even now, after everything, he still wanted to use her as a shield, a cover, to keep up the perfect image of a loyal husband in front of the world.

Over the next few days, Andrew started making excuses to “let Bethan rest”, clearly trying to edge her out of the company.

Then came more bad news. Several days later, Bethan was at home chatting with her parents when the investment bank called. Her jewelry had failed to sell at auction.

“That’s impossible!” Bethan and her parents responded in unison, stunned.

After hanging up, Bethan grew anxious. “Dad, Mom, the reserve price I set wasn’t even high. How could the jewelry not sell?”

Miranda exchanged a glance with Vincent, then hesitated. “Could someone have intentionally stopped interested buyers from bidding?”

It had to be Hugh.

Bethan immediately tried to call him, but he didn’t pick up.

She grabbed her bag and headed for the door, only to be stopped by her parents.

Vincent tried to calm her down. “Even if it was him, what can you do with him?”

Bethan collapsed onto the couch, drained.

Miranda gently comforted her, “Don’t give up yet. Try another investment firm. Maybe someone else will take it.”

Later that afternoon, Bethan met with Tristen.

When he heard her jewelry had failed at auction, he was clearly surprised.

“I’m heading to Canada tomorrow for an academic conference,” he said. “Let me give you an address. You should visit Mr. Gabriel Wood. He’s a well-known jewelry expert with a strong client base. He might be able to help you sell the pieces.”

Bethan thanked him repeatedly, unsure how to express her gratitude.

Tristen adjusted his glasses, then asked cautiously, “I heard you’re resigning?”

Bethan froze for a second, unsure how to respond.
