Chapter 61 I’m Leaving

But Hugh grabbed her wrist, tightening his grip. “Bethan, stop using divorce as a way to test me. I know you don’t actually want it. I’ve tolerated your tantrums long enough, but now it’s your turn to tolerate something. Megan and the child are part of this equation. You need to accept them and coexist peacefully.”
His eyes stayed locked on her, studying every flicker of her expression. “I’m flying out for a business trip tomorrow. I’ll be gone for a week. When I come back, I expect you to have moved back into our home. You need to remember your place.”
Bethan felt her entire body tense as his words sank in. His cold indifference pierced her like a blade.
She shoved him with both hands. “Why should I? You’re the one who betrayed this marriage. Why am I the one who has to endure all of this?”
Hugh gripped both her wrists, pinning her back. “Because you’re Mrs. Cavill. Whether you like it or not, that’s your duty.”
Bethan snapped, her voice hoarse from rage, “I don’t want to be your wife. I don’t want you anymore, Hugh. I want a divorce. Is that so hard to understand?”
But Hugh remained eerily calm. Bethan, without my approval, not a single auction house in all of New York will touch your jewelry. And no hospital here will ever hire you again.”

Bethan lost it. She pounded her fists against his chest. “You bastard!”
Unfazed, Hugh replied coldly, “I know you don’t actually want a divorce. But even if you did, I told you before—this marriage isn’t something you can just walk away from.”
His voice was razor-sharp and emotionless.
Their eyes locked. The despair in Bethan’s gaze slowly turned to something darker-hatred.
Unable to pull her hands free, she suddenly leaned in and sank her teeth deep into Hugh’s shoulder.
He grunted at the pain but didn’t move away. Instead, he held her even tighter.
In the cramped confines of the luxury car, silence settled like a storm cloud. For several long seconds, neither of them moved.
Only when the taste of blood filled her mouth did Bethan finally let go.
Her lips were stained crimson. Her eyes were red-rimmed with tears.
She trembled as she stared him down with burning resentment.

Her voice was low but steady. “On the day I married you, I swore I would never leave you, Hugh. I said I’d rather die than give you up.”
She took a shaky breath. “But now I regret it. Even if it ruins me, I’m leaving you.”
She flung open the door and stormed off, not looking back once.
Inside the car, Hugh pressed a hand to his shoulder, where the pain still throbbed. Through the windshield, he watched Bethan sobbing as she ran across the street.
That was the second time she’d told him she regretted marrying him.
And yet, he hated how she always used death as a bargaining chip to test his resolve.
Frustrated, Hugh drove straight to the Regal Club.
Inside, Mason gave him a pointed look. “Have you ever considered that maybe Bethan isn’t threatening you? Maybe she really does want a divorce. Maybe the only one in denial here is
you.”
Hugh’s tone didn’t waver. “She went to Megan again today. Called her a homewrecker. Threatened to kick her out of the
apartment and force her and the kid to leave New York. That’s not someone who wants a divorce.”

Sure, Bethan wasn’t the dazzling, spoiled heiress of the Olsen family anymore. Life had worn her down.
But her pride that bone-deep pride-hadn’t changed. She wouldn’t stoop so low as to pick fights with Megan and her child.
Mason finally said, “Even if she did go after Megan, you and that woman drove her to it. Bethan’s not the one in the wrong here.”
Hugh massaged his temples, weary. “I’m leaving the country this week for business. Keep an eye on Bethan for me. I don’t want her going after Megan again.”
Mason rolled his eyes. “Why don’t you just take Megan and her kid with you, then? Problem solved.”
Hugh’s brow furrowed.
Mason leaned back, dryly sarcastic. “Or better yet-kill Bethan. Clean break.”
Hugh gave him a hard stare.
Mason shrugged. “Fine. Then maybe you die instead. That way, both of them will finally get some peace.”
As Hugh turned toward the door, he paused. “Bethan lost her
