Chapter 64 Giving Him Back to You
The flames spread quickly, devouring the toy in seconds.
Bethan stood and stepped back as the fire consumed the rest of the pile, crackling and roaring under the darkening sky.
She stared at the blaze, unmoving, as if the inferno was burning away the last pieces of her heart.
Behind her, Megan watched, lips twitching in barely concealed delight.
She couldn’t believe her luck. Bethan had chosen to walk away on her own. Megan had barely had to lift a finger.
And now that she’d finally set foot inside this house, no one would ever drive her out again.
Bethan pulled a folded divorce agreement and a bank card from her purse and handed them to Megan.
“Find a way to get Hugh to sign this,” she said quietly. “And pass along a message for me-this card holds one billion dollars. Once he and I finalize the divorce paperwork, I’ll give him the password.”
Megan took the items, her hands trembling with excitement.
She hadn’t expected Bethan to be this wealthy. One billion

dollars-just like that?
Bethan slowly raised her left hand and stared at the diamond ring still sitting on her finger.
She had worn it for three years, never taking it off.
She still remembered the moment Hugh had slipped it on. She’d cried like a child.
He told her, “If you love it, keep it on. Don’t ever take it off.”
And she had sworn through her tears, “Unless I die, I’ll never take it off.”
Looking back now, she couldn’t believe how naive and foolish she’d been.
Megan’s eyes locked on the glittering ring.
If it hadn’t been for those elders in the Cavill family meddling six years ago, that ring would’ve been hers. She would’ve been Hugh’s wife.
Seeing Bethan hesitate, Megan took a step forward.
Tentatively, she said, “Ms. Olsen, if Hugh doesn’t love you anymore, then this ring must mean nothing to you. Could you return it to me?”

Bethan looked at her and saw the excitement burning in Megan’s
eyes.
Without a word, she slid the ring off and gently placed it on Megan’s left ring finger.
Her eyes shimmered, but her voice was steady. “I’m giving him back to you.”
She added, “Ms. Ridley, don’t tell him yet. Let him finish his trip in peace. When he gets back in three days, you and your son can give him a nice surprise.”
Bethan didn’t even remember how she got home.
She lay quietly on the bed, eyes blank, staring up at the ceiling.
Since the moment Megan and her child returned to the country, everything had spiraled—from disbelief, to hysteria, to complete despair.
She had tried every possible way to get Hugh to divorce her.
But Hugh? He had never tried to solve the problem. All he ever
tried to do was handle her.
She had loved him for so many years. Tearing him out of her heart wasn’t going to be easy.
But holding onto a marriage that had lost all meaning was even

harder.
If her letting go could give everyone a little dignity, then maybe it was worth it.

The next morning, she was pulled out of a daze by the sharp ring of her phone.
“Bethan, did you renovate the house?” Gwen’s voice crackled through the line.
Bethan instantly sat up in bed, alarm jolting through her.
“You went to my place?” she asked cautiously.
Gwen replied that she had just seen a truck delivering renovation materials. Bethan exhaled in relief.
Last night, before she left, she had warned Megan.
That woman wasn’t stupid. Surely she knew better than to let the Cavill family find out she had moved into the house Bethan once shared with Hugh—at least not before Hugh got back.

At the house, Gwen ended the call.

Mason stopped one of the workers. “Are you sure the renovation was commissioned by someone named Olsen?”
The contractor pulled out the paperwork and pointed at the signature on the bottom right corner. “We wouldn’t even be allowed on the premises without the homeowner’s approval,” he said.
Seeing Bethan’s signature, Mason’s doubt melted into certainty.
