Chapter 65 Drop the Self-Righteous Attitude
And without access to that money, there was no way she’d be able to raise the billion dollars she claimed she needed to walk away.
She’d figure it out while he was gone-he was sure of it.
“If she wants to remodel, let her,” Hugh said casually. “We’re married. It’s her home too.”

Hanging up, Hugh walked over to the minibar and poured himself a glass of whiskey.
In a crisp white shirt and black dress pants, he stood tall before the floor-to-ceiling window, sipping quietly as he looked down at the city lights glowing beneath him in this foreign country.
After a moment’s hesitation, he opened Bethan’s chat window on WhatsApp.
Their last message thread was still stuck on the text he had sent her the night before his flight.
He frowned. Something about the silence irked him.
In the past, Bethan almost never called when he was away, but

her messages had always poured in nonstop.

Ever since Megan and her son returned, though, she hadn’t messaged him once.
Even now-renovating the house, moving back in—she hadn’t said a word to him.
With a faint scowl, Hugh finally dialed her number.
The line connected, and his jaw unclenched slightly. “I heard you’re renovating the house.”
Bethan’s voice came through, calm and emotionless. “The master bedroom and your study on the second floor have security locks. You have a lot of valuables in there. I didn’t touch anything.”
It had been days since he heard her voice. Hearing her sound so compliant, he softened his tone without realizing it.
He made a small concession. “Take a break from work for now.
Don’t bother going to see Grandpa by yourself. Wait for me to come back, and we’ll figure it out.
“No need,” Bethan replied evenly. “I’ve already quit my job.”
His hand tightened around the phone.
After a pause, he offered, “Then it’s fine. You don’t need to work

so hard anyway. You’re my wife. You don’t need to suffer. When I get back, I’ll give you access to my secondary credit card.”
Bethan’s tone didn’t shift. “We’ll talk when you get back.”
She didn’t say yes. But she didn’t say no either. That was enough for Hugh to allow a small smile to creep onto his lips. “Is there anything you want?” he asked, his voice warm.
In three years of marriage, he’d tried more than once to give her his secondary card. She had always refused.
Maybe Megan and her son’s return had finally made her feel threatened. Maybe now, she was starting to care about his
money.
Bethan ignored the question. “My mom’s taking me out for lunch. If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”
“Alright,” Hugh said, and the call ended.
Just before 4 p.m., outside the entrance of John F. Kennedy International Airport, Bethan had just finished a call with Tristen when she spotted Megan walking straight toward her.
Bethan frowned instinctively.
But Megan beamed like the sun, Ms. Olsen, I heard you’re flying out around four. I just thought I’d come say goodbye.”

“Thanks,” Bethan said in a polite but flat tone.
Megan stopped in front of Bethan. The smile on her face gradually faded, replaced by a wary seriousness.

“Ms. Olsen,” she said quietly, “even if you hadn’t backed off, Hugh was going to divorce you sooner or later. Since you’ve already chosen to let go, I hope you’ll do it completely.”
Bethan’s expression cooled. “What are you trying to say?”
Megan’s tone hardened. “I’m saying I hope this time, when you leave the country, you never come back.”
Bethan laughed, but it wasn’t warm. It was a cold, cutting laugh.
She took a step closer, her voice low and sharp. “Ms. Ridley, don’t forget-Hugh and I are still legally married. So drop the self-righteous attitude.”
Megan’s gaze wavered. “You’re planning to change your mind?”
Bethan’s tone turned icy, every word deliberate. “Megan, what I do, where I go, and when I choose to come back is none of your business. If you’ve got what it takes, then convince Hugh to divorce me. Until then, don’t waste your time trying to pressure
me.”
As she turned to leave, Bethan shot Megan a final, provocative glance.
