Chapter 68 Burned Every Single Thing
Before she could finish, Hugh cut her off, enunciating every word, “Call her Mrs. Cavill.”
Megan lowered her eyes, hiding the bitterness flashing across them. “I’m sorry, Hugh. She told me herself to address her that way.”
She continued carefully, “A few days ago, she called me out of the blue and asked me to bring Hudson here. She said she planned to divorce you and wanted to give us a chance.
“She even contacted a renovation company and arranged to have the house redone-for the three of us to live here together.”
Hugh stood still in the center of the living room. His entire body swayed.
So she didn’t redecorate the house because she had a change of heart or because she was coming back.
She did it to bring Megan and her son in. She did this to force his hand.
Megan watched his expression turn stormy and quietly nudged Hudson forward.
Hudson looked at Megan, then carefully walked over to Hugh.

Lifting his little arms, he asked for a hug. “Daddy, Ms. Olsen is really nice. She even gave me my own room, and there’s a sailboat model and Transformers in there.”
Hugh’s mind was spinning.
Daddy? Ms. Olsen?
His ears rang. He could barely think.
He stepped back from Hudson, face cold. “Hudson, I’m not your father.”
Hudson stumbled backward, startled. “But… Mommy said you
were-”
Before he could finish, Megan rushed forward and clamped a hand over his mouth, pulling him close.
Hugh turned to her with a hard stare. “Megan, I’ve told you before-I will never be Hudson’s father.”
Megan lowered her head, guilty. “I’m sorry, Hugh. He just… really wants a dad. Please don’t hold it against him. I’ll make sure he doesn’t call you that again.”
She was secretly relieved that she’d sent Hudson first to test the
waters.

If she’d approached Hugh herself things definitely wouldn’t have ended with just a warning.
Hugh didn’t reply. He turned and headed upstairs.
He pushed open the door to the second-floor music room- only to find it had been completely transformed into a child’s bedroom.
His back hit the wall as he closed his eyes in silent exhaustion.
Hearing footsteps behind him, he didn’t move. “The two violins that were in this room. Where are they?”
Megan lingered at the door, not daring to step in. “Mrs. Cavill burned them.”
Hugh’s eyes flew open. “She burned them?”
Megan nodded. “Not just the violins. She burned a lot of things. Out in the garden.”
Before she could finish, Hugh was already out in the hallway.
Megan followed slowly behind, holding Hudson’s hand.
After setting fire to everything that day, Bethan had left the charred ruins in the garden untouched. She hadn’t cleared a thing. She wanted Hugh to see it for himself-to understand she was truly done.

Hugh stopped beside the blackened remains and stared at what was left of the two violins. The sight hit him like a punch to the gut. He felt like he couldn’t breathe.
One of those violins had been his birthday gift to Bethan for her eighteenth.
He remembered that night clearly. She wore a white cocktail dress and a delicate diamond tiara. It was the first time she’d
worn makeup, her features so refined it took his breath away. She descended the staircase on her father’s arm, the picture of elegance and grace.
When she spotted him, her entire face lit up. That smile was bright, dazzling, and unforgettable.
She let go of her father’s hand and ran to him, tugging at his arm playfully. “Huggie, where’s my gift?”
When she opened the violin case, she squealed and threw herself into his arms, beaming.
She told him that from then on, she would only play for him.
Later, he found out she had secretly changed her university major. She’d given up the violin she’d practiced for over a
decade. All because she wanted to study medicine-to help him
with his insomnia.

That violin had meant everything to her. She had kept it in this room like a treasure.
