Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 69

Chapter 69 I Never Intended To Divorce Bethan

Lucky Draw

Hugh staggered to his feet and pulled out his phone to call the driver.

After hanging up, he said to Megan, “Pack your things. I’ll have the driver take you both home.”

Megan hadn’t expected that, even at this point, Hugh still wouldn’t sever ties with Bethan.

Carefully, she asked, “Hugh, it’s late, and Hudson’s tired. Can we leave tomorrow instead?”

Hugh strode straight to the living room. “This is my marital home with my wife. It’s not appropriate for you two to be here.”

Megan followed behind, refusing to give up. “Hugh, she has already gone this far to get the divorce. Are you really going to

hold out?”

Hugh stopped and turned around.

His face darkened as his gaze locked onto Megan’s expression. “You knew why my wife misunderstood, so why did you agree to move in?”

Megan took a step back, feeling wronged. “Hugh, are you blaming me now?”

Hugh wearily looked away. “When you brought your son back to the country, I was blinded by the long-awaited reunion. I lied to Bethan about being on a business trip just to take care of you two. I stayed by your side in the hospital for a whole month.

“But I never intended to divorce Bethan. I won’t now, and I never will. Bethan is just throwing a tantrum. She’s not going to divorce me.”

Even if she really wanted to divorce, she wouldn’t be able to without producing ten billion dollars.

Seeing Hugh still wouldn’t give up, Megan turned and went inside.

She handed him the divorce agreement Bethan had left, along with a bank card.

Hugh took them, lifting the card with dark, dangerous eyes narrowing.

Megan’s voice was cautious. “This is from Bethan. She asked me to give it to you. She said there’s one billion dollars on that card. When you two get the divorce certificate, she’ll give you the password.”

With a sharp thud, Hugh tossed the divorce papers and the bank card onto the coffee table. “The driver will be here soon. Go pack your things.”

He sat on the couch and lit a cigarette.

She managed to pull together one billion dollars so quickly. She must have sold the jewelry privately.

Megan hadn’t expected that even with the divorce papers in front of him, Hugh would still want her gone.

Clenching her fists in frustration, she forced herself to speak, “Hugh, why won’t you admit you still have feelings for me?”

Hugh leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees as he took a deep drag from his cigarette.

His voice was low and unclear. “Megan, what we had ended six

years ago.”

The faint haze of smoke blurred his gaze as he stared hard at the papers and card on the table.

Megan stood before him, eyes filled with unwillingness. “Hugh, I know your grandfather and parents don’t approve of me. They’ve put pressure on you. That’s why you can’t divorce your wife and get back together with me.”

Her tone softened. “Hugh, I understand. If this is how it has to be, then I’ll accept it. But please don’t speak to me so coldly. It hurts more than you know.”

Hugh stubbed out his cigarette and stood up. “Megan, no one can stop me from doing what I want. If I don’t divorce, it’s because I don’t want to.

“My wife was spoiled growing up. She can’t handle being wronged. Whether she runs away or threatens divorce, those are things between us.

“I don’t need your understanding. The best thing you can do for me right now is to take Hudson and leave.”

Megan stood frozen, unsure what to say or do.

She had fought so hard to move in here. There was no way she would be pushed out so easily.

Before Megan could even speak, tears of frustration spilled down her cheeks. “Hugh, it wasn’t us who moved in on our own. Bethan asked us to come. Now that you’re kicking us out, what face am I supposed to show if others find out?”

Tiredness showed in Hugh’s eyes. “Megan, this is my marital home with Bethan. Do you really think it’s appropriate for you to be living here?”

Megan shrugged it off. “Hugh, you lied to Bethan for me. You went a whole month without coming home, not once calling or texting her. You didn’t think twice about that. I’m just following Bethan’s arrangements by moving in. Am I really the bad one here?”
