Chapter 72 I Know Her Temper
Mason hesitated. He hadn’t meant to bring it up tonight, but the words were already on the tip of his tongue. “Hugh, listen. Bethan sold her mother’s heirloom jewelry just to push that divorce through.
“She completely renovated your marital home, then invited Megan and her son to move in. She even handed over the wedding ring to Megan. Do you know what that means?”
Hugh sat with his head bowed, shoulders heavy, as if the weight of it all had finally crashed down on him.
“It means,” Mason said carefully, “Bethan isn’t just throwing a tantrum. She genuinely wants a divorce.””
“She doesn’t,” Hugh said firmly. “She’s just furious. Everything she’s done-inviting Megan into our home, giving her the ring-it’s a message. She’s forcing me to make a choice.”
Mason stared at him with a pained expression, speechless for a long time.

Hugh stood in the entryway, staring at the pair of house slippers Megan had placed by the door. He paused but didn’t change into them.
Mason stepped into the living room and glanced around at the decor. He couldn’t stop himself from commenting. “Not to be rude, but Megan’s taste is nothing compared to Bethan’s. This whole setup? If your grandma were still alive, maybe she’d like it—but that’s about it.”
Hugh gave him a sideways glance. “Don’t tell Gwen that Bethan left the country.”
Mason widened his eyes. “You know Gwen. Do you really think I could hide something like that from her?”
Hugh didn’t answer. He simply turned and slowly made his way upstairs.
After showering and changing into fresh clothes, he walked into the study.
He sat on the sofa, eyes fixed on the three items Bethan had left on the coffee table: the divorce papers, a bank card, and the wedding ring.

These were the only things in the entire house that still held any trace of her.
Everything else had been burned. She hadn’t even left behind a hair tie.
His phone buzzed on the table. He answered.
Jacob’s voice came through. “Mr. Cavill, Mrs. Cavill left the country the day before you returned. She’s now working at a private hospital in Canada owned by the Dixon family. I’ve sent her address to your phone.”
Hugh frowned. “Canada? The Dixon family’s hospital?”
“Yes,” Jacob replied. “She was referred by the Dixon family’s third son, Tristen.”
The next morning at the Cavill Group Executive Office, Jacob knocked and stepped in. “Mr. Cavill, Sir Cavill asked Logan to remind you-you’re expected at Cavill Manor today.”
Hugh signed the documents in front of him without missing a beat. “Book me a flight to Canada tonight.” 3/6

met Megan for lunch.
After the waiter left, Megan glanced at him carefully. His eyes kept drifting to his phone.
She tightened her grip on the utensils in her hands. “Hugh, about last night, that was my fault. I shouldn’t have agreed to move into the house you shared with Bethan.”
Hugh continued cutting his steak with quiet precision. He gave a noncommittal hum in response.
The silence stretched between them. Megan’s expression
turned stiff.
She held back for a moment longer before speaking again, “I didn’t think this through. Everything that’s happened between you and Bethan-it’s my fault. I don’t care what it takes, and I’ll talk to her. I’ll explain everything and try
to fix it.”
Hugh stopped cutting.

divorce my wife, the most respectful thing you can do right now is keep your distance.”
Megan was struck speechless.
She forced a smile. “I’m sorry, Hugh. I can be dense sometimes. I didn’t realize Bethan was doing all this on purpose. I won’t contact her. Please don’t be upset.”
She added quickly, “You were out of the country, and Bethan was so aggressive back then. Whatever she said, I had no choice but to listen. I didn’t want to upset her, and I didn’t overthink it. I guess I’m too naive. I only see what’s on the surface.”
Hugh’s voice softened slightly. “You don’t need to blame yourself. I know her temper better than anyone.”
