Chapter 78 She’d Rather Die
By the guardrail, Hugh held Bethan tightly in his embrace, his breath coming in ragged gasps.

Ignoring her frantic struggles, he scolded in a muffled yet urgent voice, “Do you have any clue how dangerous that was? What if you’d taken a tumble?”
Bethan was in the throes of a complete emotional meltdown. She thrashed about and wailed in Hugh’s arms, “If I can’t divorce you, I might as well die!”
For a split second, Hugh’s grip on Bethan loosened, but then he tightened his hold.
He fell silent, closing his eyes to savor the warmth of her soft body pressed against his.
At that moment, he finally had to admit it-Bethan was dead-set on getting a divorce.
Without giving Bethan a chance to say no, Hugh took her back to her apartment.

Hugh from going upstairs. “Just give me a ring when it’s time to pick up the divorce certificate.”
Hugh regarded Bethan with a deep, worried look.
He reached out and grabbed her wrist to stop her from walking away. “Bethan, I won’t bug you for now. Let’s both cool our heads, but I’m not signing off on this divorce.”
“Then we’ll take it to the courts,” Bethan snapped, yanking her hand free and striding straight into the elevator without so much as a backward glance.
If they couldn’t part ways amicably, she’d rather turn into a total stranger to him.
As the elevator doors gradually slid shut, Hugh’s outstretched hand dropped limply to his side.
Jacob, who had been patiently waiting nearby, stepped forward carefully. “Mr. Cavill, the helicopter’s all set. When are you and Mrs. Cavill taking off?”
Hugh stood quietly downstairs, craning his neck to look at the lit window of Bethan’s room. Then, he closed hid:46

He should’ve seen this coming from the moment he voluntarily picked up Megan and her son at the airport upon their return to the States.
When Hugh promised Megan that he’d take care of them for life and acknowledged the child as his own, his marriage with Bethan was already slipping out of his control.
Hugh didn’t call Bethan, nor did he go upstairs to pester
her.
Instead, he lingered downstairs for hours, chain-smoking.
After midnight, Jacob came over again to persuade him, “Mr. Cavill, you’ve got a signing ceremony tomorrow morning.”
Hugh finished the last cigarette in the pack, then picked up his phone and sent a text message to Bethan.
He looked up at the now-darkened window one last time before averting his gaze. “Let’s go,” he said.
Bright and early the next morning, Hugh touched down in/New York.

Fiona was there at the airport to pick him up and drove him straight to the Cavill Manor.
Dragging his exhausted body inside, Hugh was
immediately cornered by Ryan.
“Why didn’t Bethan come back with you?”
Hugh, clearly worn out, mumbled vaguely, “She’s taking some professional courses there and can’t make it back right now.”
With a loud bang, Ryan slammed his cup down on the coffee table.
He roared, “She just went abroad like that? Does she even have any respect for us old folks?”
Turning to the butler at the door, he ordered, “Logan, go over to Bethan’s parents and tell them to rein in their daughter.”
Hugh stepped in. “Dad, Bethan went abroad to study. No need to drag her parents into this.”

After keeping quiet throughout the ride, she finally spoke up, “Hugh, is Bethan really hell-bent on divorcing you?”
Hugh kept a straight face. “I backed Bethan going to Canada to study. I crashed at her apartment last night. We’re okay. Don’t go jumping to conclusions.”
