My parents gave me hugs and then I was being ushered outside everyone cheering. I smiled and gave a small wave. Music started to play and people began dancing. I was slightly awed by the pile of presents that was steadily growing.

People grabbed me into hugs and wished me a happy birthday others smiled and said nothing. Lee stayed with me the whole time, his presence always known by the feel of his hand on the small of my back or on my shoulder.

The party seemed to all blur together because suddenly the clock was striking twelve and my body was shifting. I didn’t even feel the pain that was suppose to come with the first shift. I realized my wolf was shielding me from it.

Suddenly I was on four legs and staring at Lee my world shifting and becoming clear. I had already known he was my mate and that I was in love with him but it felt as if my love grew even more. I felt as if I would die to protect him. It suddenly became clear to me that the chances of pups being taken from us was just as hard on him.

He wanted pups of his own. His siblings had had multiple children and even were grandparents. His body had been frozen in time and he was going to live longer then he was suppose to. He was ready to settle and have a family.

My body shifted back to human form and a blanket was instantly thrown around me. He gathered me into his arms and carried me all the way to our home.

I stared at the mark on my neck. Last night had been nothing like I expected. It had been better. I was truly Lee’s mate now and nothing could separate us.

Not even death.

I walked out the bathroom and genuinely smiled at the sight of my mate sleeping peacefully the blankets bunched at his hips. I crawled into bed and ran my finger lightly over his nose. His nose twitched then wrinkled as he tried to move away from what was bothering him. Finally his eyes opened slightly. When he realized I was awake a lazy grin spread

across his face,

“Do you know how happy I am that I don’t have to go murder one of those pups for taking your virginity

I blushed and hit his chest. “Shut up I mumbled not wanting to talk about it. His grin widened and pulled me down into

a kiss.

“Good morning mate.” He whispered.

‘Morning.” I whispered back.

“Lets just lay in bed today.” He said smiling I smiled back.

“Really? All day?”

THREE MONTHS LATER

Lilly held a blue shirt. I nodded in approval. We were currently baby shopping. As I had predicted it wasn’t a month later that Lilly and Blaze were announcing they were having a baby. The news had made me grit my teeth but I was happy

for them all the same.

1 briefly touched my own stomach sorrow touching me. Lee and the pack doctor were the only two people who knew of the baby I’d misscaiged. It’d destroyed me for a while and Lee took me on a ‘vacation‘.

We’d had a private little ceremony for our lost child and buried them in our back yard. I’d planted flowers over the sight

never wanting to forget.

I’d come home early one day to hear Lee crying in our room. I’d silently entered and we’d held each other tears falling from both of us. Without him I wouldn’t have made it through that and I knew in some way I had helped him too.

I had a suspicion I was pregnant again but I didn’t want to tell Lee. It was most likely I would lose this child too.

Pushing the morbid thoughts away I smiled as Lilly talked excitedly about the names her and Blaze had decided on. Blaze had been a amazing mate to her and I was so proud of him. He was still my best friend but it was clear Lilly was his number one girl now and I was okay with that though I didn’t know if Lyra was.
