What was I going to do? Shadow was in pain and I could do nothing. I couldn’t finish the mission which meant could’t save my mate.

I slammed my fist into the wall watching the bricks crack under the sudden blow. I hit it again and again pain blooming in my hand but I barely noticed it.

I couldn’t save Shadow. I couldn’t save him.

Arms suddenly wrapped around me pulling me flush against a hard chest. Warmth spread through

me and I knew it was Luca.

“She’s going to kill him Luca….she’s going to kill Shadow” I whispered going limp.

He carried me back to the bed and brushed my hair from my face.

“Wait do you mean Shadow Jackson” one of the new comers asked digging through his coat pocket.

I shrugged tiredly “I never knew his last name”

Suddenly the man pulled out a photo and showed it to me. Me eyes filled with tears as I stared at the picture of my mate. His eyes filled with amusement his bare chest clear of brutal scars. I nodded

and reached for the picture.

“Yes thats my mate……could–could I have that?” I asked hopefully.

The man smiled at me gently and nodded. I took the picture and gently ran my thumb over Shadows

face.

“I’ve never seen him smile like this. Do..do you know if he had a happy life before–?”

The man stared at me “Yes he is the alpha of the strongest pack in North America the people he was closet to said he was quite happy”

I closed my eyes and nodded.

“Who is the woman who has him?” The man asked.

My fist clench and I laughed humorlessly. “She’s my grandfathers Mistress. She thrives on the pain of others and had a slave used for the specific purpose. Until a couple months backs she claimed he was becoming a bore so grandfather got her a new one……her got her Shadow” I whispered starting

at the photo.

The man’s eyes widen “Did you speak to him when he frist arrived?”

I shook my head “No but I wish I had. I’m not allowed to speak to Clarie’s slaves or I get punished and that usually involves a couple of my bones being broken. I’ve learned to follow the rules.”

I ignored my mothers sob and my fathers growl.

“Last week grandfather went on a business trip and Claire wanted me to watch over her slaves as if they were pets saying I had to walk them and feed them. I—It’s hard for me to show emotions but…..I couldn’t treat them like she did. I found out Shadow was my mate…he was angry at first but

then he realised the truth as did grandfather.”

I took a deep breath.

“I’d been given this mission a month ago but had always felt like I couldn’t do it. Grandfather knew this so when he found out shadow was my mate he told me……kill the targets or he’ll kill my mate.”

I looked up at my family “I’ve killed alot of people broken alot of peoples families but I knew I

couldn’t finish this mission.”

I dropped my head hating myself.

So many lives I’d taken and now Shadow would be the next.

Luca wrapped his arm tight around me and pressed my face against his chest.

My mother was crying silently into my fathers chest and I hated that I caused her that pain. I looked down and saw Leo’s pale face. Reaching down I grabbed the syringe from my ankle strap and plunged it into my brothers side.

I couldn’t give it to him yesterday because the silver hadn’t spread far enough for my cure to get to it fast enough without killing all his blood cells first.

I watched as his body went into a seizure causing our mother to scream in fear but my

assured her I wouldn’t hurt him.

Guilt snapped at me again.

Eventually Leo’s body calmed down.
