As they left, Connor gave Elijah a firm pat on the shoulder. “We’re supposed to marry people who match our status. Since you never planned to marry her, cutting ties now is better for her and for you.”

Once Julian and Connor left, Elijah stared at his glass, completely zoned out.

Out of all of them, only Sebastian could afford to ignore that and marry whoever he wanted, without consequence.

Serena thought they were heading back to the estate. Instead, the driver pulled up in front of Levine Residence.

“Sebastian, are we staying here tonight?”

Sebastian shook his head. “No. But we’re stopping by to collect some interest.”

Serena looked at him, confused.

He reached over and gently tugged her earlobe. Sweetheart, did you really think two buckets of water were enough to settle everything?”

He didn’t think it was over. But someone else clearly did.

Trevor had driven back to the residence, irritated. He’d planned on going to the new house, but the thought of sleeping next to Amber tonight made his skin crawl. At least here, he had a solid excuse to sleep in the study.

She went upstairs to wash up, drained.

She walked quietly to the study and pushed the door open.

“Trevor, aren’t you coming to bed?”

He didn’t even look at her. “I have work. You go ahead. It’s late. I’ll sleep in the guest room so I don’t wake you.”
