Chapter 215 Still Worried
Serena had barely stepped into the office when Eugene flagged her down.

Serena, I’ve been thinking. Something’s not sitting right. You got the license, sure, but did you even have a wedding?”
Serena looked embarrassed and shook her head. “Not yet.”
“Alright. What about the house? Did you two buy one? Did your families talk through everything? This whole elopement feels rushed.”
“Boss, they already had a place. My dad likes it. The money talk’s all squared away. You really don’t have to worry.”
Sometimes, Eugene felt more like her actual parent than her own father.
But she couldn’t tell him the full truth.
Sebastian might seem perfect, but if Eugene ever found out she married him just to climb, he’d never support it.
Better to let him think everything was fine. That way, he wouldn’t stress over something she already chose.
Eugene wasn’t thrilled with her vague responses. He sighed. “Don’t take this lightly. Marriage isn’t like switching jobs. If you hate a job, you can quit. But marrying the wrong person? That mistake sticks, unless you’re fully ready to pay the price for a switch.”
“I know, Boss. I hear you.
“So far, he’s been great. I’m happy. Not looking to trade him in just yet. But when I am, I’ll come to you for a good divorce attorney.”
“You don’t quit, do you? You haven’t even had the wedding and already talking like that. That’s bad luck.”
Serena saw the corners of his mouth twitch. She finally relaxed a little.
That afternoon, Eugene visited Levine Group and ended up in Daniel’s office.
“You ran into Mr. Levine recently?”
“Yeah, Mr. Hart. Surprising, right? He actually joined us for dinner. Pretty down–to–earth.”

He left out the part where Sebastian and Marvolo clashed.

Daniel narrowed his eyes slightly. “Sounds like you really hold Ms. Steele in high regard. Bringing her to that kind of dinner means something.”
Eugene waved it off, though he was already raising an eyebrow inside. Why was Daniel so interested in his protégé?
So he leaned into it. “Honestly? I was trying to set her up. There’s a young prosecutor I know who’s single. Thought they’d be a good match. Next thing I know, she runs off and elopes.”
“Eloped?”
“Yeah. These kids don’t mess around anymore. Barely knew the guy and went straight for the paperwork. Didn’t even tell me.
“But she’s smart, beautiful, and driven. I’m not shocked she got snatched up.” He looked Daniel in the eye. “Don’t you agree, Mr.
Daniel forced a smile. “Of course. She’s impressive. Did she ever mention what her husband does?”
internally.
Eugene rolled his eyes guy
was not giving up.
“She didn’t say, but I think he’s doing just fine. The house and car are both in her name. Heard the gifts were generous. Her dad’s thrilled.”
Just outside the door, a man stood silently. His expression said nothing, but his eyes were sharp.
So this was what she told people about him?
Daniel smiled tightly. “Sounds like she made a solid choice.”
“Oh, Serena’s head over heels. I warned her to stay sharp, and she
got
defensive.”
Eugene scoffed. “I told her, don’t get blinded. Who knows what men are hiding these days? But she wouldn’t hear it.
“I’m not gonna push her. I’ll just keep an eye on things. If her husband ever steps out of line, I’ll be the first one after him.”
