Chapter 231 Negotiation
“But,” he shifted his tone, “if you call me ‘honey,’ I might wait outside while you two catch up.”
Serena’s mouth twitched. “That’s not really necessary, is it?”
When his face dropped, she gave in immediately. “Fine, fine. Honey, honey. Happy now?”
She wasn’t gonna lose a limb over saying it.
Sebastian looked smug. “Patrick, take us to Clearspace.”
The car pulled up in no time. Serena opened the door and turned to him. “No need to wait. You guys can head back. I’ll call a car when I’m done.”
She didn’t give him a chance to argue. She was already worried about Winona and darted inside without another word.
Sebastian chuckled under his breath.
Patrick looked at him through the rearview mirror. “Should I wait here, sir?”
“Yeah. We’ll wait.”
Sebastian opened his laptop and started clearing out his inbox.
Serena rushed into the bar. She spotted Winona at the counter, deep in conversation with the bartender like they were catching up on years.
“Winona!” She tapped her on the shoulder.
“Rena! Finally!” Winona waved at the bartender. “Get my girl a Mint Julep.”
“Coming up!”
Serena shook her head fast. “No, no. I can’t. Just give me water.”
Her tolerance was embarrassingly low. Even one drink could knock her flat.
Winona pouted a little but didn’t insist. “Then give her a juice. Real fruit.”
“Winona, what happened tonight?”

“It’s not a tragedy or anything. I’m just feeling off.” Winona sighed. “Rena, my family never wanted me in this industry. But I love it.
“I love the stage. I love the spotlight. I love being the one everyone’s looking at. So I went for it. I didn’t even care if I made it big. Then I met him, and sure, things got a bit better. But not by much.
“You know how controlling he is. Wouldn’t even let me shoot romantic scenes. These days, who even fakes a kiss? But I gave in.
“And then he turned around and went on blind dates behind my back.”
Serena wrapped an arm around her. “Forget him. You’re gonna do better. Way better. You’ll meet someone who makes him look like nothing.”
“I doubt it.”
Winona’s gaze dropped. “What really messed me up today wasn’t even him. It’s like everything’s crashing down at once. I just got booted from an A–list show.
“If I hadn’t signed a contract, I’d suck it up.
“But the contract was signed. And they still replaced me. If I try to fight it, I’ll just burn bridges. This industry’s already brutal.
“It’s like I’m not cut out for this. Maybe I should just go home.”
Serena understood. Even with a signed deal, nothing was guaranteed. She could fight it, sure, but once you crossed a sponsor, you were as good as gone.
Artists without backing always had it rough.
“What show was it? Can you tell me?” Serena asked gently.
“Some job–hunt reality thing.”
