Chapter 246 Dissuasion

You’re the only light in your mom’s life, Jonah.

Jonah broke down and cried. But I’ve failed her.

While Serena spoke, Sebastian carefully moved to the side. Then, in one quick motion, he lunged forward, wrapped an arm a Jonah’s waist, and yanked him away from the edge.

Jonah wasn’t ready. His slippers slipped. He accidentally kicked Sebastian.

Jonah landed safely. Sebastian didn’t. His body tilted back. Serena lunged, but she was too far.

Jonah froze.

He had made another mistake.

Sebastian’s body went airborne. The wind pulled at his coat. He looked at Serena, worry in his eyes, and said softly, Don’t cry. Rena. I like it when you smile.

She ran. Her legs buckled. She almost fell on the stairs. As she passed Jonah, she snapped, Why are you just standing there Move!

Jonah stumbled after her. He knew he’d messed up big time.

When they reached the bottom, they found Sebastian sitting up on the rescue cushion, rubbing his shoulder. I’m fine.

Sebastian let out a breathy laugh. A warm rush filled his chest.

She had been terrified. She was worried about him.

A man nodded. Good job, young man. Go home with your wife.

Then, the crowd turned to Jonah.

Kid, what were you thinking?

Jonah, didn’t you say you were going home to see your mom soon? What would she do if you never showed up?

Life’s rough. We get it. But what about everything you worked for? You want to throw it all away?

The voices kept coming. Jonah stood in the middle, face burning, eyes wide, nodding like he couldn’t believe what he’d done.

He stepped forward and gave Serena and Sebastian a deep bow. I’m sorry.
