Amber clutched the leg of Trevor’s pants, her voice shaking. “Trevor, please come with me. I can’t be alone in some cold, empty country. I need you. Please?”
Trevor looked torn. He slowly peeled her fingers away from his pants. “Amber, listen to me. You started this. When I get the chance, I’ll come visit. Alright?”
The last shred of hope slipped from her eyes.
Sebastian pressed his lips into a thin line. “I’m not heartless. The wedding’s next week. Serena and I are getting married. You can leave after the reception.” D
That one sentence crushed whatever pride Amber had left.
Her vision went black, and she dropped to the floor.
“Amber!” Deanna screamed. “Somebody call a doctor!
“Sebastian, you’ve known Amber since she was little. Do you have to be this cruel?”
Sebastian didn’t blink. “Sending her abroad is cruel?
“Plenty of people would do anything for that chance. The family gave her everything. We never asked her to pay it back, but we won’t let her stay and keep hurting people.”
Bryce’s private doctor rushed into the room. “What happened?”
“Dr. Lang, please. My daughter just collapsed.”
Dr. Lang grabbed his tools and quickly checked Amber’s pulse and blood pressure.
Her breathing was steady. Her pulse was fine.
“Mrs. Levine, has she eaten today? Looks like a classic low blood sugar reaction. I’ll start her on a glucose drip.
“But I still recommend a full check–up. Low blood sugar can be more serious than high. It’s lucky she fainted at home. If she’d passed out outside and hit her head, it could’ve been dangerous.”
Deanna hesitated.
“Dr. Lang, is there a chance she might be pregnant?”

The doctor paused. “Well… I don’t know.”
He wasn’t an OB–GYN. He couldn’t say.
“If you’re worried, take her to the hospital for a proper test.”
Sebastian let out a quiet laugh. “Deanna, don’t tell me you think being pregnant changes anything.

“Relax. The hospitals overseas are top–notch. I promise your precious grandchild will be just fine.”
Nathan stayed silent.
Deanna’s face flushed with anger.
“Sebastian, you-”
“Enough!” Bryce cut her off. “Dr. Lang, give her the glucose. Then send her to the hospital for bloodwork. We’ll know soon enough if she’s pregnant.”
Nathan, Deanna, and Trevor helped get Amber to the hospital.
Serena stayed behind, trying to breathe through the chaos. Too much had happened.
“She’s not pregnant,” Lucinda muttered.
“Rena, every time she messes up, she plays the victim. She’s been doing it since we were kids.”
Lucinda hadn’t forgotten. Amber’s adoption hit her the worst.
Amber’s first birthday in their home, Lucinda gave her favorite toy as a gift.
Amber didn’t keep it. She gave it to someone else.
After that, Lucinda stopped playing with her.
That, too, somehow became her fault. Amber cried in front of the whole family, whining that Lucinda didn’t like her. Lucinda’s dislike turned into something deeper that day.
