But he did it anyway.

Serena was no saint. Jonah could not die–not because of what he had been through, and not because of the catastrophic fallout his suicide would bring down on Eugene and Beaumont Legal.
She simply did not want him dead.
To Sebastian, though, Jonah was just some stranger. A man as seasoned and sharp as he would have sized
up the stakes in seconds. He would have known exactly how ugly it could get, so that hand he reached out with? It could only have been because of her.
“Lucinda, I don’t know, but Mr. Sebastian and I…” Serena searched her memory, coming up blank. “We barely crossed paths before.” D
Is this something he’s been planning all along, or is it love at first sight?
“Sebastian, you embarrassed Nathan for her. Was it really worth it?” Bryce let out a silent sigh. The last thing he wanted was to see his two sons turn on each other like enemies.
“Why wouldn’t it be worth it?” Sebastian shot back. “Dad, that engagement was arranged by Mom and Old Mrs. Steele from the Steeles. I didn’t object.
“If Trevor had truly cherished her, I would’ve stayed out of it. I wouldn’t have come back. He doesn’t know what love is, nor does he know how to treasure someone. If he only realizes what he had once it’s gone, isn’t that a little too late? I respected seniority and understand it’s first come, first served.
“If the one who came first doesn’t deserve it, then don’t blame me for jumping in.”
Bryce froze. “Why you! When did this even start?”
Sebastian narrowed his eyes. He wore that careless, almost unruly look on his expression, but the sharpness in his gaze was unmistakable.
He meant every word.
“Earlier than you think.”
Bryce stood there, stunned, then started cursing under his breath.

Sebastian stepped out of Bryce’s study. His gaze swept the hallway, searching, but Serena was nowhere in sight. A second later, he spotted her in the garden, heads bent close with Lucinda, the two of them whispering like conspirators.
“Honey, it’s getting late. Let’s head home,” he said.
Lucinda glanced at him and caught that faint crease between his brows. She shot to her feet like she’d been called on in class. “Oh! Rena, you’d better go with Uncle Sebastian. My bad for keeping you out here gossiping. Uncle Sebastian, I won’t walk you guys out.”
Sebastian curved his lips in an unhurried smile. He looked downright pleased with himself. “No rush. Take your time heading upstairs.”
Lucinda suddenly didn’t know what to say. Am I actually taking my time, or just pretending to? If I actually take my time, he’s going to start slicing me up with that look again.
Serena watched Lucinda practically vanish into thin air, then shot him a mildly aggrieved look. “Why’d you scare her? We haven’t seen each other in forever.”
Sebastian stepped closer and wrapped his fingers around her soft hand, holding it as it belonged there. “Alright. I’ll send her a digital cash gift later as compensation. Let’s go home, hmm?”
His voice was low and velvety, threaded with an easy chuckle. The sound alone made heat bloom at the tips of her ears. If he keeps this up, it’s tough not to think he’s been plotting this all along.
Upstairs, as Lucinda trudged toward her room, her phone lit up with that irresistibly charming blue transfer screen. She accepted it in under a second and grinned so wide her cheeks hurt.
Then, she sent Sebastian a sticker thanking him.
“Hahaha, I’m rich!” she sang under her breath, in excellent spirits, only to run straight into Bryce, who had just come out of the study and was heading back to his room for the night.
