Bryce stressed the words “adoptive mother.”

Deanna stiffened and stopped insisting. “Yes, Dad. I understand.”

The dinner ended on a bad note.

Lucinda pulled Serena into the garden for a walk.

“Rena, how is she that lucky? Trevor went over there once, and she got pregnant? And the timing was so exact. She was just four weeks along when they found out. Isn’t that a little too perfect?”

Lucinda was beyond annoyed with Amber. “I was already thinking about not inviting her to my wedding. If she comes back, it’ll be hard to send her away again.”

Serena had a feeling Amber wouldn’t stay overseas for long.

Even though Sebastian strongly opposed it, what if she insisted on coming back? She kept that thought to herself, though.

“Lucinda, did you pick your wedding dress yet?”

Lucinda’s cheeks turned red. “Julian picked it for me.”

Serena narrowed her eyes and teased her. “What’s going on? We haven’t seen each other for that long, and your relationship already moved forward?”

“There’s no big progress. He asked someone to custom–make a few dresses based on the style I like. They’re still working on the designs. I just feel like he’s actually not bad.”

Not just that. Julian really knows how to treat a woman well.

Serena noticed the huge diamond on Lucinda’s ring finger and gave her a knowing smile. “Oh, he’s definitely not bad. That ring has to be worth at least eight figures, right?”

“Okay, Rena, enough about me.” Lucinda felt shy.

“Are you going to your mom’s wedding tomorrow?”

Lucinda’s eyes turned cold right away. “No. I don’t want to go.”

Serena nodded and let out a quiet sigh. Some knots could only be untied by the person who tied them.

Sebastian had never brought that up, and they always used protection.

She shook her head. “We’ll wait. I’m up for a promotion next year, so we don’t have any plans for a baby right now.”

If she had a child, all her plans would be thrown off.

For at least three years, she wouldn’t be able to do much of anything. Even though Serena looked down on Amber, she had to admit Amber was a good wife. She was the type who only wanted to rely on her husband.
