Serena let out a soft, mocking laugh. “Do I look like I’m short of money?”
“Either way, thanks. You’ve just given me another piece of evidence,” she added.
When the recording of the attempted bribe was uploaded online, the situation exploded and pushed the entire incident to a new peak.
Government departments quickly stepped in, releasing official statements saying the matter would be dealt with strictly.
Serena tagged every official account one by one, reminding them to publish the results once the investigation was done. She also made it clear that she would be watching the case closely the whole time.
Sebastian came to pick her up, but Serena wasn’t in the mood to talk.
“Babe, can I stay at the apartment for a couple of days?”
She just wanted some quiet time alone.
“I’ll stay with you.”
In truth, she had wanted to be by herself, but Sebastian insisted. “Don’t blame yourself. I know you are, but this tragedy didn’t start because of you.”
Two lives had been lost. Just a month ago, she had gone to see them.
They had been alive and full of life.
The guilt and regret she had already been feeling now reached a level she had never experienced before.
She strongly believed it was her own immaturity. If Ava had received enough compensation from her, would things have turned out differently?

Ppressing for so long finally broke free, and she cried.
“I’m sorry… I just feel so terrible.”

Sebastian gently stroked her back. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll always be here with you.

The outcome was satisfying to many people, but the dead could never come back.
Standing by the sea, Serena bowed toward the calm water. “Ms. Warren, I hope you and Shawn can rest in peace.”
Sebastian wrapped an arm around her and led her away. Seeing the gloom still lingering on Serena’s face, his brows furrowed deeply.
Noticing that she was in such a low mood, he had wanted her to take more time off from work, but she refused.
First, she had already taken plenty of leave this year. Second, she didn’t want to rest. Being busy was the only way to stop those messy thoughts from running through her mind.
Before the situation had blown up, Adam had talked with Eugene many times, asking him to keep Serena out of the whole mess. In the end, when everything finally spiraled out of control, the consequences arrived.
One of Chris’ clients had pulled out. They would rather terminate the contract early than continue working with Beaumont Legal.
“Mr. Beaumont, that apprentice of yours is too impulsive,” he said. “It was just a legal aid case. There was really no need for her to go that far. She’s never even handled criminal defense before. Look at the other lawyers from our firm-criminal cases are far more complicated. If it were someone else, would they really go around offending the judge?”
Eugene calmly reassured him. “You’re right, Mr. Rowe. But youngsters will always be youngsters. You can’t expect them to be like us old guys in our forties and fifties-lifeless and without any edge. If that were the case, what future would the firm even have?”
Adam glared at him. Who was he calling an old guy? Since when was fifty considered old? He refused to admit that he was getting on with age.
“So, what do you suggest we do?” he asked. “Chris is making a fuss with me. That large
