Chapter 449 A Gift for Her
Trevor faltered, his voice catching. “You can come back whenever you want.”
Sebastian let out a cold laugh. “Where the hell did you go just now?”
He locked eyes with the boy, noticing the unease flicker across his expression. “Uncle Sebastian, I was in Amber’s room helping her with her homework.”
Disgust flickered across Sebastian’s face.
Then, unexpectedly, came relief.
At least she came into my room by mistake, not Trevor’s. If it were Trevor, she’d definitely come out feeling down.
For the rest of the summer, Serena never showed up again.
Once in a while, Lucinda’s complaints drifted through the house. “Serena, why haven’t you come over lately?”
Leaning against the kitchen island, Sebastian took a slow sip of his drink, his attention sharpening.
“Oh, your grandma’s unwell? I see. I’ll visit Madam Morland some other time, then.”
Lucinda turned–and froze when she spotted Sebastian. There was no telling how long he’d been standing there. “Uncle Sebastian?” she asked cautiously. “What are you doing here?”
There was no way he’d admit to listening in on her conversation.
Instead, he slipped two refined gift boxes from his pocket.
“Someone gave me these, assuming I had a girlfriend. Their mistake–your benefit.”
Lucinda’s eyes sparkled as she accepted them. “Wow, earrings! They’re beautiful!”
Then, she hesitated. “But why are there two identical sets?”
“Oh whatever, I’ll give one pair to Rena,” she said brightly. “We can match—just like real best friends.”
A moment later, realization dawned on her. “Uncle Sebastian, since you gave them to me, I can decide what to do with them, right?”

“Do as you like.”
Sebastian turned and made his way upstairs, his expression unreadable. Only after he faced away did a faint, knowing smile appear.
Lately, even he couldn’t understand his own thoughts.
More than once, he had caught Trevor and Amber behaving in ways that crossed the line of ordinary sibling closeness.
When his father mentioned arranging an engagement between Serena and Trevor once they turned eighteen, he nearly objected on instinct, but something stopped him. What if Serena actually wants it? What if I interfere and ruin her hopes? How would she feel?
At twenty–four, he found himself growing quieter with each passing day.
“Sebastian, I’ve got to say–I’m impressed. You’ve only been back two years, and those old- timers at the company already follow
your lead.”
Sebastian knew his father had reservations, but convincing Nathan came first.
“Nathan, I respect what they did alongside Dad. But you’ve seen how many incompetent relatives they’ve stuffed into the company. If Levine Group keeps going like this, it’ll collapse under its own weight.”
Nathan didn’t hesitate. “I trust you. If Dad pushes back, I’ll stand with you.”
A faint smile tugged at Sebastian’s lips. “Thanks, Nathan.”
“Come on, we’re brothers. No need for that.”
“Actually… there’s something else.”
