Chapter 481 You Are Shameless
“Fine, you can have the couch. I’ll take the bed,” Winona said, ending the conversation abruptly.
Elijah requested an extra blanket from the front desk.

Once he received it, he turned off the lights and settled comfortably on the couch. The couch was too short for his height, so part of his long legs hung awkwardly over the edge.
Later that night, when Winona woke up to use the bathroom, she noticed his uncomfortable position and felt a faint sense of sympathy.
“Hey, Elijah.”
His lashes trembled slightly, but he remained still.
“If it’s really that uncomfortable, you can sleep on the bed. But you have to promise you won’t do anything tonight.”
After pretending to sleep for a moment, Elijah slowly opened his eyes. “Hmm? What was that, honey?”
The word “honey” came out naturally, without any intention to tease.
Winona’s face instantly warmed. “Who are you calling honey? Don’t call me that. If you say it again, you’re out.”
A bitter feeling tightened in his chest. She could be soft and trusting toward someone she’d just met, yet she had little patience left for him.
“Yeah, it’s pretty uncomfortable. Thanks for letting me use the bed. I promise I won’t do anything.”
Winona watched as he gathered the blanket and lay down on the far side of the wide bed, and she pressed her lips together. She let out a quiet scoff. I know he is pretending earlier.
Having succeeded with his little plan, Elijah climbed onto the bed. It had been a long time since he’d been this close to her.
Even with her eyes shut, she could feel the intensity of his gaze beside her: “Stop staring at me and go to sleep!”

Elijah turned toward her and gave a faint smile. “Alright. Good night.”

After a day filled with fear and tension, Winona’s body finally relaxed, and she drifted off quickly.
However, her rest was far from peaceful.
In her dream, Elijah came to rescue her, but another avalanche hit. He pushed her to safety, only to be buried beneath the snow himself.
She woke up suddenly, sitting upright, her forehead covered in cold sweat.
Her breathing was uneven as her heart pounded heavily in her chest.
Barely thirty seconds after she sat up, Elijah woke as well.
He propped himself up and gently rubbed her back. “What’s wrong, babe? Did you have a nightmare?”
Winona didn’t even realize tears were streaming down her face–especially after seeing the man from her dream right in front of her, alive.
“Elijah, hug me.”
He froze for a second, his voice slightly shaky. “Are you sure?”
“Hug me.”
Her tone was firm and cold.
Hearing that, Elijah stopped holding back and pulled her into his arms.
This was neither the gentle embrace from the rescue nor the forceful, possessive hold from before.
Winona leaned against his chest, clearly feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. That steady pulse soothed her more than anything else could.
Their cold bodies gradually warmed against each other.
An unfamiliar tension began to build between them.
Elijah lowered his head near her ear and whispered softly, “Can I?”
His voice carried a quiet, heated invitation.
