Chapter 73 Her Heart Skip a Beat
Bryce’s soft gaze fell on Serena. “Rena, this is on me. I owe you an apology.”
A pang of guilt flitted across Serena’s chest. “Old Mr. Levine…”
But it lasted only for an instant.
Her thoughts quickly shifted to her grandma still in the hospital, and her expression darkened. “I’m sorry, I have to go back. My grandma suffered a sudden stroke last night. I need to get to her.”
Bryce blinked in disbelief. “A stroke? But she seemed fine. How could that happen?”
Serena let out a quiet, bitter laugh. “I’m not sure. It happened after Amber visited her.”
The words hung in the air, and everyone nearby reacted with subtle shifts in expression.
Bryce’s sharp eyes narrowed, glinting with concern.
His adopted granddaughter was stirring trouble once again.
“Alright,” he said finally. “Go. I’ll visit her tomorrow.”

“Are you going to drive, Mr. Sebastian?” she asked.

His hand, cool against her skin, brushed over her stomach through the thin fabric. The touch was fleeting, but it made Serena hold her breath and freeze completely.
“I can drive,” he said, “but you need to buckle up first.”
Nervous, she shifted slightly and accidentally tugged at her bandage.
“Does it hurt?” Sebastian asked, his gaze fixed on it.
“A little,” she admitted, lowering her chin.
A little discomfort was bearable. But her grandma–if something happened to her, Serena wasn’t sure how she’d cope.
Sebastian’s expression tightened. “Stop wearing off–shoulder clothes. You’re still recovering. Keep yourself warm.”
He realized how fatherly he sounded as soon as the words left his mouth.
Studying her face, he added carefully, “With a fracture, you need to stay protected from the cold.”
Serena didn’t know how he had guessed her injury; she simply nodded quietly.
Her only concern right now was her grandma’s well–being.
They rode to the hospital in silence. Sebastian accompanied her upstairs, his eyes steady and unreadable.
She politely declined his offer to go inside with her.
He couldn’t help wondering if she was regretting the broken engagement.
Patrick had gone for a brief walk around the block but returned to find the car missing.
Alarmed, he immediately phoned Sebastian. “Mr. Levine! Someone’s stolen your car!”
Sebastian pressed his lips into a thin line. “How is that even possible?”
“I swear, Mr. Levine! I just stepped out for a moment. When I came back, the car was gone. Should I call the police?”
Patrick couldn’t understand it. In broad daylight, right outside such a luxurious hotel, no one would have the audacity to steal a
car.
Sebastian glanced at his own vehicle. “No one took it. I drove it away myself.
“All right, Patrick. Take the rest of the morning off, and maybe cut back on those TV dramas while you’re at it.”
Beep, beep–he hung up without another word.
